It will be interesting to compare the “lessons learned” from the Newtown, CT shootings to those of Ma’alot, Israel.

On 15 May 1974, members of Yasser Arafat's “Religion of Peace” attacked the Israeli settlement of Ma’alot. By the time the IDF was able to respond and eliminate the threat, 31 Israels were dead, 22 of them children, and 70 wounded. The ROP lost 3 confirmed and perhaps more.

After the attack, there was much soul searching in Israel of what to do. As usual, the Left sought to make things worse by denying arms to the victims of the attack to demonstrate to the Muslim thugs the Jews weren't a threat to them. However, smarter heads prevailed. Settlements like Ma’alot were armed to the teeth. Teachers were armed. Parents with arms stood guard and teens with marksmanship skills were enlisted as a ready reaction force (along with teachers and parents) until the IDF could arrive. No further attacks to Jewish settlements occurred because the Muslims were afraid they'd lose too many of their murderous ilk.

What Newtown, CT has to do is harden the target and not make them “free fire zones” for disarmed victims as is now the case.

And that's what I will be advocating.
