Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich says President Barack Obama should nominate Colin Powell as secretary of state as a bipartisan gesture toward mending fences with Republican senators who rejected U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice for the post.
I actually think it would not be a bad idea for President Obama to seriously consider seeing if Colin Powell would come back out of retirement because Colin did endorse him, Gingrich told Fox News Sean Hannity Thursday night.
That might be a bipartisan step that would move us in a direction of a different kind of dialogue, he said, suggesting that Powells moderate views would serve the country better than any other possible nominees to succeed outgoing Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

I meant no disparaging - just Newt does this kind of stuff sometimes - and people react to the headlines... instead of realizing he is subtly calling someone out..
Still lovin’ that man...

Thank you for making your point about Newt's point. I appreciate the correction and did not take offense.
Still lovin that man...
Yeah, me too. :)

Powell's treachery brought on the independent counsel and the seige of the Administration. He should be in Federal prison, not the Department of State. And Gingrich should be in an asylum with his Bonaparte hat and hand in tunic.

Hello. Newt is trying to call out Obama for saying the republicans never hired minorities for top positions the charge about Susan Rice from the left. Get it folks, I do. Newt is no match for the sidewinders..As bad as Powell is, I would take him any day over that sorry traitor Kerry any freaking day. I think Newt is trying to help stop that from happening but people are too naive. No Kerry. Please no!

How can freepers be so simple and literal? Newt is trying to jam 0zero’s gears. If words were scud missiles Newt would rule the world via fear and humor.

I think some of the people who posted on this thread seem to do drive by analysis without thinking. Some of the same who are not fond of Newt anyway/so they love to pile on to hurt the guy.

Powell was the perfect affirmative action officer.Of course he was. I was amazed in 1990-91 that people didn't see that, much less in the ensuing years.

Zero would never make the offer. Colon would never accept. I agree. It would be a glorious thing to watch the in fighting that would occur if such a thing happened ;-)

You can actually see a difference between Powell and Kerry?
A bit of advice: Always count on the lowest common denominator. When Powell displayed his bad side, there is worse behind. There is no difference between Powell and Kerry.
