There have been a lot of factual errors in the chaotic rush to get details about todays shooting in Connecticut. But one fact that seemed established across the board was that victim Nancy Lanza, the mother of alleged shooter Adam Lanza, was a teacher at the Sandy Hook Elementary School specifically that it was her class that Adam Lanza massacred.
But this story just out in the Journal suggests thats not true.
Oddly, its buried down at the bottom of the story, almost as an afterthought
A former school board official in Newtown called into question earlier reports that Nancy Lanza had been connected to Sandy Hook Elementary School, possibly as part of the teaching staff.
No one has heard of her, said Lillian Bittman, who served on the local school board until 2011. Teachers dont know her.

I have watched both Fox and CNN all day and have not heard one word about a girl friend or anyone else missing.
************************************
When they thought the shooter was Ryan, they reported his girlfriend was missing.
Ryan and his girlfriend drove to his apt./house AFTER the police had already arrived there in Hoboken NJ and neither of them knew anything about what had gone down in CT.
Idiots in the media were also reporting that the Lanza father was killed in Hoboken. He and Ryan are very much alive and both were interrogated by the FBI and released.
How does a principal married to a school nurse afford to raise racehorses and golf at the country club?

It was reported many times throughout the day that it was in possibly the/or one of the wealthiest Counties in the US.
..if teachers dont want to be armed, fine..but have a guard outside of the school..a retired police officer or a security guard
************************
AFAIK, every public school in the DFW area has an armed policeman inside every school day. They watch the doors, walk the hallways, put down disputes and have an office in their schools. Their city police cars are always parked right out front near the door to let folks know they are on the job. ....Our property taxes go to school districts and city operations, so it matters little which is paying them.
Did he really ever attend that school?
**********************************
His older brother, Ryan, grew up in Newtown and graduated from HS there, so it’s likely that Adam followed the same path through the schools. They both lived there when kids and Adam still did, according to the news reports (believe them or not).

The killer’s parents, Peter J. and Nancy (Champion) Lanza, lived on Depot Road in Kingston on property that had been in Nancy Lanza’s family for decades. Records at the Rockingham County Registry of Deeds show that Nancy Lanza acquired the Depot Road property from her mother, Dorothy (Champion) Hanson in 1987.
Nancy and Peter Lanza sold the Kingston home in 1998. The listed address for the current owners, who bought the property in 2011, is a post office box in Newtown, Conn.
Peter and Nancy Lanza were married in 1981, according to Kingston vital statistics records. Adam Lanza was born on April 22, 1992.
Members of the Champion family still live on portions of the original six-acre site.
Nancy Lanza was the sister of Kingston Police Officer James Champion, who lives next door to the former Lanza family home, sources said.

Nancy Lanza’s stepfather, Paul Hanson, was a former teacher and principal in Epsom. He was also a school principal in Brentwood and was principal of the Memorial School in Newton for 26 years. Hanson was also a thoroughbred horse owner who kept race horses at Rockingham Park in Salem. Paul Hanson died in 2003 at age 72.
Peter Lanza’s father, Peter S. Lanza, of Plaistow, died in 2010 at age 83. The elder Lanza was a native of Haverhill, Mass. and lived in Groveland, Mass. before buying a condominium in Plaistow in 1994.
A family of ‘public servants’ living large it would appear. Very strange if you ask me. Thanks for the info.
could be. i noticed the sign said 1956. once the misinformation machine got rolling yesterday, it’s hard to read anything without questioning it. especially when they don’t update their stories and just cut-an-paste on top of the ones they already have and leave in the contradictory information. the school district site was down immediately following the murders.
I don’t do Facebook, so can’t see it. Thanks for the link anyway. Anything interesting there?
Any parent who has kids that play video games, and guns lying around the house, is JUST ASKING for these types of tragedies to repeat.
I’m told some set up a dummy account for fb access. ;)
There are quite a few family members, (sons, daughter, step-daughter, nieces, nephews, grandkids), as friends, but no Lanza’s. Odd.
Mom/Grandma arrived at her FL winter home on 11/30/12. Seems she wasn’t going to spend Christmas with any family in the NE.
What I find odd is that the brother Ryan has not talked with his brother (the shooter) since 2010. Why would a family split up kids that way? What happened?
Thanks for the background information, maggief.
1500+ posters weighing in @ zh...
There is no Newton CT. There is a Newton MA and Newton NH. There is no Memorial School in Newtown CT either, but there is one in Newton NH. She could very well be related, but this person was not a principal in CT.
There seem to be some serious family disconnects.
In 2008, Lanza’s parents filed for divorce with a judge ordering the pair to participate in a parenting education program.
They were divorced the following year stating “irreconcilable differences” after 28 years of marriage and agreed on joint custody of their youngest son, then 17, who would live primarily with his mother.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Neighbors didn’t know much about the family.
It is remarkable how the “facts” in this tragedy have become so hard to come by. This has been a cluster**** in so many ways.
Thanks for the link.
Modern journalism leaves much to be desired!
The article that Maggie posted is about the mother’s late father, who was a principal.
That obit has a typo. See post #105.
To clarify:
Memorial School, Newton, NH
Nancy Lanza, Newtown, CT
