>>I’ve never seen Delta refuse someone in first class giving up their seat for another.

On that note, we have an 82nd Airborne patch my wife was given by a guy she gave up a lay-flat Delta business class seat to. He was coming back from Afghanistan, told her after the flight that it was the most comfortable he had been in 6 months, said “thanks”, and gave her the patch. I don’t mind admitting I got a little choked up hearing about that when we got off the flight.

Normal policy is they don’t like you swapping seats between classes like that, but don’t seem to ever have a problem with it when it involves military. At least that’s what we’ve seen.

Similar situation with me. I was on a US Airways flight, and had been bumped up to First Class due to my status in their frequent flyer program. An officer with the 7th Special Forces Group boarded late, and looked like hell. He was just coming back from Afghanistan, and he'd clearly been traveling a while. I offered him my seat, and he initially declined. When I insisted, and said "it would be my honor", he stopped his protests and took the seat. I gladly went back to Economy Class. After the flight, he sought me out and shook my hand - slipping me a challenge coin from his unit as his thanks before disappearing into the crowd. I keep it on my desk now.

The flight attendants had no problem with it, and I'd expect the same of any airline.FrontBack
