Hey! In all fairness Andrea Yates’ children were doing fine in homeschool until she went choo choo for cocoa puffs.

Would not say homeschooling sent her over the ends. I blame her husband for so many reasons.

Concur.

Why was Andrea Yates able to kill her children when she went of the cliff? They were concentrated in a small area she had access to and there was no other adult that could defend them from the attack.

Which is exactly my point and yours, Morgana, about public schools.

The Yates children may have been doing fine being homeschooled, but I do believe that Yates was in such serious mental decline at that point that HER homeschooling was a disastrously bad idea. I am in no way saying that homeschooling drives a parent to madness, but this particular parent (AY) had already clearly demonstrated that she was a danger to herself, and therefore should have been viewed and treated as a danger to her children. AY needed hospitalization, long term care. That never should have happened.

NONE of these killings should ever happen. We don't need gun control, we need to figure out when we can say "The safety of society is now threatened by the violent acts that this individual MAY commit." That is a loaded question, but I believe it is the one that needs to be answered.
