Matt Damon: 'I Need To Pay More Taxes' By Noel Sheppard Created 12/14/2012 - 11:23am
Why is it wealthy liberals dont understand that if they want to pay more income taxes, they can each year on their 1040 form make an additional contribution to the federal government above and beyond what they owe?
Consider the case of actor Matt Damon who on PBSs Tavis Smiley Show Wednesday actually said, I need to pay more taxes (video follows with transcript and commentary):
TAVIS SMILEY, HOST: Do you think that ultimately on the things that matter to you, the things that matter to me, that Obama as president is going to be on the right side of history?
MATT DAMON: I desperately hope so, because we need that. And people need that. I dont need that, I am in the one percent. So I need to pay more taxes. Its the truth. You know, I dont begrudge, I dont drive by a fire house and see guys playing cards and begrudge the fact that my taxes pay them, because every once in a while, the bell goes off and those guys run into a burning building for people who are strangers, for people who are my friends, or their cats. You know? And I dont want to do that. You know? I dont know that Im built to do that. Maybe I am, but I would rather pay another percent or two for some, you know, police who are going to make sure that, you know, our kids are safe and were safe. You know? Occasionally, they put themselves in harm's way.
And I like driving on nice roads. You know, I believe, you know, I just, I believe that were all in it together. And I dont, and I wonder, you know, these people who get so angry about a couple more percentage points. Its like, What, I mean, what are you talking about? Really. You know. You want to see what life looks like without that? Go to the Congo. You know? There are rich people in Haiti, go check it out. Do you want to live there? You know?
I mean, its like, so, for me, I, you know, those issues of social justice as well, like, for me, those are the most important. Im reading a lot about Bobby Kennedy right now. So heres somebody who writes about poverty, but those things that he was fighting against towards the end of his life, and fighting for, there hasnt been a lot of movement, you know, statistically on a lot of that stuff. And thats 40 some odd years ago, and thats pretty sad.
Actually, if anything, despite the trillions of tax dollars that have gone to fight poverty in the past 50 years or so, there are more people living in poverty than there were when the "war" on it began.
As rich liberals hate "wasting" money on wars they oppose, why are they virtually all so willing to spend more on this "war" despite its obvious failure?
Far more importantly, if Damon was really concerned about the poor, why doesnt he give 90 percent of his current wealth to charity?
According to our friends at CelebrityNetWorth.com, hes worth $65 million and earns about $24 million a year.
As such, rather than paying more taxes, he should take $60 million and donate it to a variety of charities devoted to helping those in poverty.
He'll still have $5 million along with his astonishing income to live a much finer lifestyle than the 99 percent he claims to be concerned with.
Then he'd actually walk the walk he demands others far less well off than him do.
Just saying.
Given the accounting structure of the movie industry, this statement is extra hilarious.
Then pay more damn taxes, Matt! None of us will stop you...
Nobody is stopping you...Matt.
Exactly! The government takes voluntary contributions as well!
Hey Matt - there’s nothing stopping you from writing a huge check to the government - you know?
All he has to do is fork over his income to the Fed!
He can keep enough for a jar of peanut butter and a beer.
Hey Matt, gotta admit I like your acting but you don’t need to sound off like an idiot.
People like this hire accountants that protect the money these Hollywood fools make from their deranged left-wing philosophy.
That is why they just dont cut a check. These guys will call them up and make it clear that the more they pay, the less they can party.
The little sniveling actor should just pay them . . . next time he’s at the Sundance Film Festival dressed like a little cowboy he can pass his cowboy hat around among his limousine liberal friends, and they can pay as much extra tax to Uncle Sam as their little phony hearts desire.
YourAdHere: I need to stop seeing Matt Damon movies.
What real conservative begrudges money spent on fireman RUNNING INTO A BURNING BUILDING...? The model is ridiculous. Whenever a lib wants to guilt you for ANY reservation about ANY tax, they reflexively trundle out the most innocuous forms of expenditure;
1. firemen
2. cops
3. hydroelectric dams
It’s profoundly dishonest.
How about public spending MIDNIGHT BASKETBALL GAMES...? It’s unacceptable to reduce payment to urban criminals for playing a GAME that they enjoy?
How about emergency reconstruction funds spent on SEIU people giving MASSAGES to welfare queens? Because it happened.
Wonder if he’d pay my taxes for me?
I don’t know who is more annoying: Matt Damon, Ben Afleck or Brad Pitt.
Now who can argue with that?
If all they did was pay firemen and build roads and bridges I would be HAPPY with the taxes I pay, Matt... but they DONT
They pay millions of bureaucrats to sit on their fat asses handing out checks to millions more to sit around on their fat asses.
Do you know that there is THE EQIVALENT OF one good full-time govt employee for each family on welfare? and the full time employee gets paid twice as much?
....stop whining and JUST DO IT!
