I don't have a link, but I thought the shell casing remained in the weapon, indicating the slide did not cycle when the round was fired.

What I quoted said the empty casing was on the ground. If the casing were stove-piped in the gun, then that would represent a relatively common malfunction. In that scenario, the number of rounds in the magazine would depend upon whether Mr. Zimmerman topped off the magazine after loading the chamber; unless the report gives a number of rounds, however, I wouldn't rely upon the term "full" to distinguish between the topped-off and non-topped-off scenarios (with a ten-round magazine, a gun with nine in the mag and one in the pipe would often be considered "fully loaded", whether or not it would be possible to top of the mag and re-insert it while keeping a round chambered).

I had the impression the case was still in the chamber. It made me think that Martin may have had a hold of the weapon when it fired. I never have heard if that was confirmed by prints, etc.
