In Ohio, they started fining us if we don’t renew your registration before it expires.

Doesn’t matter if you drove the car during that time or not.

There’s no logic to this - just the usual revenue enhancement.

I found out about it (besides it being written on the renewal notice) because I was working on a car in my garage for several months. My birthday came and went and, since it was an emissions testing year and I couldn’t drive it, I couldn’t get it emissions tested, so couldn’t renew the registration. No biggie - so I thought.

On top of having to get a 30 day tag so I could drive it the grand total of .5 miles to the inspection station and back, I had to pay the fine for not renewing the registration, even though it wasn’t on the road, and wasn’t driveable.

Ouch, that’s ridiculous! Who are they to say I want to put my vehicle on public roads or not?
