Rush, part of the reason Obama wants the Republicans to cave is because he and his ilk know that the Republicans are right. They need absolution for their guilty actions, and a cave in by Republicans gives them that absolution.

To put it another way. Adam and Eve are in the garden. Eve tastes the forbidden fruit. Only this time Adam says no. When an inquiry is made, Adam says, "Forbidden fruit? Not me Lord. Ask HER."

I am now convinced that Boehner should just put up S 3412, allow the vote and all Republicans should vote present, go home for the holidays and forget about it. They didn’t want to legislate anything prior to Nov 21, 2011 and we are gonna get screwed either way.

Don’t give them their absolution. No Republican votes tied to this. Put S 3412 on the floor for a vote and go home.
