Recently, eleven people associated with the Genovese crime family of La Cosa Nostra, infliltrated various unions and began extorting money from contractors in New York. One of those charged under the indictment is Salvester Zarzana, former President of Local 926 of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners. Cases like this are going on all over the country.
