White people will no longer make up a majority of Americans by 2043, according to new census projections, part of a historic shift that is already reshaping the nation's schools, workforce and electorate.
The official projection, released Wednesday by the Census Bureau, now places the tipping point for the white majority a year later than previous estimates, which were made before the impact of the recent economic downturn was fully known.
America continues to grow and become more diverse due to higher birth rates among minorities, particularly for Hispanics who entered the U.S. at the height of the immigration boom in the 1990s and early 2000s. Since the mid-2000 housing bust, however, the arrival of millions of new immigrants from Mexico and other nations has slowed, pushing minority growth below its once-torrid pace.
The country's changing demographic mosaic has stark political implications, shown clearly in last month's election that gave President Barack Obama a second term — in no small part due to his support from 78 percent of non-white voters.
The non-Hispanic white population, now at 197.8 million, is projected to peak at 200 million in 2024, before entering a steady decline in absolute numbers as the massive baby boomer generation enters its golden years.
"The fast-growing demographic today is now the children of immigrants," said Marcelo Suarez-Orozco, a global expert on immigration and dean of UCLA's Graduate School of Education & Information Studies, describing the rate of minority growth in the U.S. as dipping from "overdrive" to "drive." Even with slowing immigration, Suarez-Orozco says, the "die has been cast" for strong minority growth from births.
As recently as 1960, whites made up 85 percent of the U.S., but that share dropped after a 1965 overhaul to U.S. immigration laws opened doors to waves of new immigrants from Mexico...

This is such bunk—No one knows what will happen in the next 40 some years. A new influx of Europeans could move here due to Islam? Russians could move her? Racism could revive and non-whites be kicked out. Mass die offs could occure and slay all people of color? Heck, there might not even be a USA in 40 years.

I live in WI. No, we are not lily white and even the rural areas that used to be so are experiencing an influx of urban minorities. This is after the influx of Somalis and Hmong brought in a decade or so ago by the churches. So, in towns of 50k or so, we now have Hmong gangs fighting black gangs. In the town nearest us, population 4k, there are enough blacks that it is no longer a rarity. I hear the social workers in Milwaukee and Madison advise the single moms that 1) it is safer here and 2) the benefits are better.

For the most part, if you live outside of Hartford, New Haven and Bridgeport Connecticut feels very white. The problem is, as with most of New England, too many of those white people are self-destructively leftist or unionized. Enough to predictably deliver the state by a wide margin to any Democrat who runs for any office. I recall Romney inching within single digits of the Marxist during polls close to November 6. In the end is was pie in the sky: the Marxist won CT by around 15 points! I’ve concluded based on this outcome that, like MA and NY, CT will never again help deliver a GOP presidential candidate.
To me, those commercials are advertising Mossberg 500's more than burglar alarms, burglar alarms are obviously for when you are not at home.
The country was half empty when the Irish got here. Also they were the same race & religion & didn’t have the opportunity to drain as resources current immigrants have.

Probably almost no Freepers can relate to this but I never went to public schools with a black or a brown. And that included four years of college. Did I miss anything? I don't think so.
North Carolina, with its huge population of descendants from slaves is 72 percent white, according to a 2011 estimate by U.S. Census. So, Connecticut, which was probably 95 percent white 50 years ago has turned blacker and browner than North Carolina. Curious.
In fact, North Carolina has been turning whiter due to immigration from the north (including Connecticut) and higher white birth rates. It has also been trending less conservative from an influx of Hispanics, still relatively small and northern liberals. But recently the GOP seems to have mastered the formula for political success and made huge gains in Congress this year and won the governorship. Both houses of the state legislature are GOP.
Well....according to wikipedia.com....WI is a whopping 83.3% non-hispanic white making it much more white than even MA or CT. California is sub-saharan Africa compared to WI!
