These whales likely just got caught in the receding waters... or not. But, there were no living creatures on land or air left to devour their flesh (unless they made a very long trip really quick).

No need to posit a "super-heated water was what did it" theory. Simply getting trapped by the receding waters would be enough. Then, once the whales were dead, there may not have been any scavengers around in time to scatter the remains.
