They used open primaries to accomplish this, they used their money advantage, and their candidate, Mitt Romney, used a scorch and burn policy towards the other Primary candidates that included lying about their backgrounds and saturating the airwaves with half-truths and out-and-out complete lies about each of the other candidates. Outstanding points, to which I would add:

I do not know the numbers but from the looks of how many Repubs stayed home on November 6th, this is probably the biggest contribution to the Romney defeat.

Since the election, the GOPe has continued the scorched earth policy against the conservatives. It’s time we recognize that the battle has always been conservatives against the liberals of both parties. We need to get off the GOP plantation and burn what we don’t take with us.
