After three years of declining sales, shipments of domestically sold beer are up by more than 1% in the United States this year. Sales of light beer and specialty beer, such as Budweiser Light Platinum, Shock Top, and Blue Moon, have been the driving force in the resurgence of U.S. breweries.
While sales of specialty, craft, and small-market beers have improved dramatically, many of the traditional, full-calorie beers that were once the staples of most breweries have fallen behind. In the five years ending in 2011, sales of Budweiser, which was once the top-selling beer in the country for years, have fallen by 7 million barrels. Sales of Michelob are down more than 70%. Based on data provided by Beer Marketers INSIGHTS, 24/7 Wall St. reviewed the nine large or once-large beer brands with a five-year decline in sales of 30% or more...

Well, but when I’m drinking Storm King, one is generally enough and two is a gracious plenty. It takes me an hour to drink one, and the flavor lasts another hour.
Anyone else grow up learning all the beer jingles on TV? Those were the days!
The older I get, the next morning mine is Sits and Moans.
Ours in high school was always Milwaukee’s Best, because it was cheapest. Then came Milwaukee’s Best Light which was even cheaper.
Nasty beer. It was like someone pissed in half the can and filled the other half with water. The Light was even more watered down. We’d ‘Ride the Beast’ on regular occasion.
Now they have ‘Best Premium’. Guess that’s premium piss, must be highly filtered or something.
No, look to Shiner Texas, the home of the Spoetzl Brewery which continues to garner international honors. If you haven't tried Shiner Bock, you need to - it's as German as you can get.
If he pees in a glass, ya won't notice the difference. Get urself a nice West Coast beer.
My opener is from the 50’s. It is true, all things pass.
Once we had a keg of Hudepohl in college. “Cincinnati’s Finest”. Our gas emissions the next day would have been banned by the EPA. But you couldn’t beat a keg of beer for under $30.
Plop Plop boy had a commercial in the early 70’s bitching about warm beer at lunch. Imagine that today.
Mmmm... only thing better than an IPA is a double IPA. My current fave is Stone Brewing (San Diego)'s Ruination IPA.
Better yet, get yourself a nice Japanese beer..Like Sapporo....It’s slightly radiated but gives it a nice kick.
Schlitz, after a long decline, death, and absence from the market brought about by a change in recipe in the late 1960s, is now back on the market brewed to the original recipe. As a drinker of microbrews, who lived in Germany for several years, I know beer - and the new Schlitz is pretty good, especially on a hot day by the pool.
bought some Old Style a couple of years ago....I think its still made...
I don't look to Germany for good beer. Rather, I look to Belgium and the UK or, above all, the US microbrews. Ales, porters, and stouts are where it's at for me.
When I was in high school, we all drank Budweiser because that’s what our parents drank at the time. For beer busts on Fridays and Saturdays, we’d buy a couple of cases of Bud, and at least one case of Schlitz Malt liquor—the Schlitz because it was cheap and strong and, after all that Bud, you didn’t care what you drank.
Yep, Shiner and St. Arnolds. http://www.saintarnold.com/
