I used to like a (once) very nice subdivision. Nothing too upscale, just newer, decent, mid-size homes.

One year, the state closed a drug infested Section 8 hell hole about 7 miles from that subdivision. They moved the "residents" to two apartment complexes that were just outside our subdivision.

Within 3 months, crime skyrocketed in our neighborhood. Cars were broken into, drugs were being sold at the playground (that we paid for). The basketball court became infested, sometimes there were over 100 teens there - and they didn't even live in our neighborhood.

Our local elementary and middle school went to hell. My wife and decided we had to move - and we did. We could see the handwriting on the wall. Fortunately, we were able to sell in a difficult market. We had maintained our home very well, and had sunk a ton of money into it. We sold it for less than market price.

That was a few years ago. Today, our former neighbors and friends are stuck. They didn't act fast enough.
