Tea Party folks and all true conservatives must push for an agenda to clean up the election process, because failure to do so will make it impossible for any conservative, regardless of his or her popularity or how well his or her campaign message is received, to achieve national (and, in many instances, statewide) office.
Here ar some issues that state legislators should be working on to provide free and fair elections:
Introduce voter photo ID cards whenever possible, which will allow a voter to vote once and only once in any given election.
Require documentation of American citizenship for all voter registrants.
Repeal early voting, Motor Voter, and same day registration where they exist.
Revise enforcement procedures to give meaningful criminal punishment to those who vote when ineligible or who vote more than once in the same election, and to schemers who encourage others to do so.
Give meaningful criminal punishment to "friends" or other operatives who vote for the mentally impaired or demented.
Secure all electronic vote recording and tabulating devices, such as optical scanners and touch screen systems, against hacking, and see to it that hackers are dealt with severely by the law.
To your last point, some posts on the thread below turned to the subject of voting-machine fraud. I made this post today-—specifically note posts by Hoosiermama, RedMDer, and patriot8:

What’s the point when the door is held open to fraud with weeks of voting?
I am in 100% agreement with you!!!!!
I couldn’t agree more. You’d be happy with our Republican SOS here in Iowa. He’s targeting voter fraud and I expect him to pay a price for it.
