The Obama Administration has launched its newest campaign to confiscate the minds of our children. To qualify for federal grant funds, Obama is requiring states to adopt a new program called Common Core State Standards In English. The program would wipe great works of literature from English curriculums across the country. And replace them with information text, such as Executive Order 13423: Strengthening Federal Environmental, Energy, and Transportation Management, an Order, of course, favorable to the Liberal environmentalist movement.
Via Lucianne, Powerline reports,
Controversy is brewing over new Common Core State Standards in English that call on public schools to emphasize the reading of information text instead of fictional literature. According to the Washington Post, English teachers across the country are upset by what they consider the governments effort to drive literature out of the classroom.
English teachers are right to be upset, but they shouldnt take it personally. The government has nothing much against literature, per se. Rather, this initiative is driven in large part by the desire to promote political propaganda in the classroom. The study of literature is being downgraded in the process, but for a good cause.
Consider that one of the informational texts recommended as a replacement for, say, Great Expectations is Executive Order 13423: Strengthening Federal Environmental, Energy, and Transportation Management. Students would thus study government propaganda in English class (this Executive Order was issued under President Bush, but it is still propaganda a political sop to the environmental left, as Stanley Kurtz shows).

I’m surprised they aren’t being force to memorize Hussein’s longest speeches.
We are at that awkward age,,,too late to stop them, and too early to,,,,,.
"Yes, little girl, you will be able to read my book in school because it will be mandated."
This is exactly why we home school our kids. We now spend the same amount of time teaching our kids as we use to correcting liberal BS.
it is a good idea to home school because the public schools are the places where the mushy minds are being fed propaganda. Now like Nazi Germany they are banning literature in schools and next will be book burnings I bet. You never know with this regime.
And all the other books by old, dead, white men.
Obama is beginning to act more like Hitler than Stalin or does he just like the way Hitler legislated his dictatorship into place?
Mark Twain had better watch out. The same for Shakespeare, Hemingway (oh, he was a leftist, nevermind), Adler, Bloom, Hurwitz (and other Jewish writers on philosophy and education); the writings of Archbishop Fulton Sheehan; even Caesar (Omnia Gaulia est tres parte).
Oh, book burning by Executive Order. Now that is a novel approach to controlling the educational reading pool.
Does anyone now say that Obama isn’t a communist dictator in the making?
It’s weird. This morning it was, actually, that I woke up with the lyrics of a song from HAIR going through my head. Don’t no why, I hadn’t really thought of it in years. The thing was, I couldn’t remember them all, which I always thought I could do. It was “What a Piece of Work is Man”, a riff on the DWEM of all DWEMs, and a very good one at that, if I may say so.
Hah! They wouldn't stoop so low as to acknowledge the question. They just laugh.
Amazing. Government publications are not literature. Maybe for political science or social studies, but LITERATURE?
Dreams from My Father would at least be considered literature. They should mandate that book.
If kids or parents refuse to read and memorize Dreams From my Father, they could be given elect o-shock therapy until they recover from delusions that Obama isn't god.
Is this worse than “See Spot run.”?
I'm not surprised.
Disturbing.
I was hoping this was satire.
Are you bleeping kidding me?
Just how far is this going to go?
When the government burns books it wants to send a message to the established base of readers. It was necessary in Europe because everyone was reading those books. Here, however, a slower and less flashy approach is being taken. There is no need to burn books if there are no readers.
This was predictable. Our press rewrites history as it is occurring. And, rewriting history is a tool of dictators. They MUST wipe out the past of a nation because if people remember the past, the dictatorship might be in jeopardy. Soon, all will be lies and propaganda and people will be of no more value than animals. How I wish America would awaken. It takes only 3% of a committed populace to change things..Do we not even have 3% in our America press who are willing to put themselves on the line for freedom? They are the ones who could change this but great courage will be needed. Also, God can bring about change if it is in His plan..Something like disease has changed history in the past.
...”Obama is beginning to act more like Hitler than Stalin or does he just like the way Hitler legislated his dictatorship into place?”...
I find Bob Woodward’s words about the President frightening..Bob Woodward is a liberal journalist who helped to bring down Richard Nixon. He has called Obama “a figure surrounded by mystery.” That is a fact..Why does our press ignore it? A free nation absolutely cannot afford to have a “mysterious” President. Is the press covering up because they think their own survival is at stake if they take a stand? If so, that is very scary.

until the union settles thier contract. Change comes slowly thru the education (brainwashing)of our children
