ST. LOUIS (KMOV) Police said a man wearing a red mask tried to rob an Asian market in south St. Louis, but fled after a woman scared him off with a gun.
Authorities said the suspect on Wednesday walked into the Asian World Market in the 3100 block of Cherokee around 9 a.m. while carrying a white bag.
Police said he got a gun out and told Sandy Maniphonh, who was working behind the front counter, to put money in the bag.
Maniphonh said she agreed to give him the money and turned. Thats when she grabbed a gun of her own and tried to shoot the suspect, but it would not discharge because it was locked.

Maniphonh is a Thai name.
And important lesson to armed criminals is that older Oriental women will at least try to kill you if they can, as many of their children’s spouses will attest. Do not mess with mother in law.
Doesn’t she know that the “gun culture” is a bad thing?
There are exceptions of course, but generally speaking, anyone who thinks Asian women are delicate little doormats has never been married to an Asian woman.
Sounds like it has one of those internal locking devices. Best thing to do is to remove or disable the infernal things.
The way to bet is that it is a manual safety. I could not get a close look during the video of the event, but the heroines english is accented a bit. I suspect that "lock" meant "safety".
Amen...+1
No joke. My Korean wife is ferocious.
