South Carolina U.S. Senator Jim DeMint will replace Ed Feulner as president of the Heritage Foundation. Mr. DeMint will leave his post as South Carolina's junior senator in early January to take control of the Washington think tank, which has an annual budget of about $80 million.
Sen. DeMint's departure means that South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, a Republican, will name a successor, who will have to run in a special election in 2014. In that year, both Mr. DeMint's replacement and Sen. Lindsey Graham will be running for reelection in South Carolina.

DeMint is on FNC now.
Considering you are not from here you don’t know what he meant to us down here in SC.
He is a true conservative warrior. He walks the walk.
All good points. Wouldn’t DeMint and Palin make a great team getting young conservatives elected?
I’m sure going to miss him as my senator.
I’m hoping he will write a piece on his blog to explain the decision further.
The idiot on Rush today said he was friends with Dingy Harry and said Dingy wasn’t a problem, the Republican efforts were.
We are a right to work state, SEIU doesn’t have any pull down here.
I knew that, dont know what I was thinking, but you are
3rd one now to correct me. rofl
This could be a plus, if on the way out DeMint becomes the one Senator required for sponsorship of a challenge of the reading of the votes of the Electoral College.
Legally speaking, that could be the can of worms that prevents the 2nd Inauguration of the current regime. 19th Century history shows how this has been done (when it was handled right).
AGREE! heard him tonite..the conservatives need a Marketing Man..and that is Demint’s Forte!
well put..exactly what I was thinking!
“It’s been an honor to serve the people of South Carolina in United States Senate for the past eight years, but now it’s time for me to pass the torch to someone else and take on a new role in the fight for America’s future.
“I’m leaving the Senate now, but I’m not leaving the fight. I’ve decided to join The Heritage Foundation at a time when the conservative movement needs strong leadership in the battle of ideas. No organization is better equipped to lead this fight and I believe my experience in public office as well as in the private sector as a business owner will help Heritage become even more effective in the years to come....
Considering all the hideous despicable things Harry Reid has done to personally and professionally destroy Rush Limbaugh, it seemed inappropriate that Jim would choose Rush’s own show to tell Rush in front of his 15 million listeners that “Harry Reid is a good friend of mine” and “Harry Reid is not the problem”. Jim probably even invited himself onto Rush’s program and Rush graciously gave him time because Rush doesn’t normally solicit guests. If that’s not what DeMint was trying to communicate then maybe he should invite himself on Rush again and explain better.
You’ve convinced me. I won’t be voting for Jim DeMint because of this.
Is Jim the only conservative in SC? Are there any FReepers from SC who could run for office?
He flatly said Harry wasn’t a problem. Maybe your conservative your ears need cleaning. They seem to think liberal lovefests are conservative.
I’m with you. Jim DeMental and HF are NOT conservative enough. Conservatives don’t say Dingy Harry is their friend and a wonder guy when Dingy Harry is an enemy of this country and its freedoms, and a conservative organization doesn’t propose mandating health insurance as HF did.
Miss Lindsay Graham is the one that should go.
Jim DeMint is a good guy. I would vote for him for President. But is he really a good friend of Harry Reid, or is he just saying that, and for what purpose. I just get sick and tired of Republicans talking like that, especially when it is one of the few remaining good guys that haven’t caved yet. I guess I should be glad he at least didn’t apologize for anything.
