'Obamacare' saves consumers nearly $1.5 billion
L.A. Times ^ | 12/5/12

Washington — Consumers saved nearly $1.5 billion in 2011 as a result of rules in President Obama´s healthcare law that limit what insurance companies can spend on expenses unrelated to medical care, including profit, a new analysis shows. Much of those savings — an estimated $1.1 billion — came in rebates to consumers required because insurers had exceeded the required limits. The study by the New York-based Commonwealth Fund also suggests that the Affordable Care Act forced insurers to become more efficient by limiting their administrative expenses, a key goal of the 2010 law. In some cases, insurers passed savings on to consumers

Once again, the idea that schools are supposed to teach mathematics is something that would probably be good to start doing again.

Maybe consumers saved some money but producers got smoked. If "consumers" saved $1.5 billion and there are 310 MM people in the US and 40 MM do not have healthcare coverage, then consumers saved 1500 million divided by 270 million which is grand total of $5.56 each.

Did your healthcare go up more than $5.56?

Thought so.

The healthcare law attempts to address this by requiring insurers to spend at least 80 cents of every dollar they collect in premiums on medical care, rather than on administrative expenses...

So they have to collect larger premiums in order to make up the lost administration costs?

The average cost of an employer-provided family health plan jumped 4% to $15,745 between 2011 and 2012, a cost shared by employers and employees, according to an annual survey released in September by the Kaiser Family Foundation and the Health Research & Educational Trust.

So...which is true? Did the average cost jump 4% or did consumers save $1.5 billion? Is this Democrat math where the cost WOULD HAVE jumped by 1.5 billion more (says Ms. Chloe) if it weren't for Obama's wonderful plan?

My insurance went up by nearly 100%. They claimed it was because of my age. My birthday was 4 months away when the first bill with the new rate came...

The saddest part of it all is that in the past few years these Democrat freaks actually started believing this kind of putrid vomit that they spew is the truth.

It is a mental disorder and the inmates are running the asylum.

I imagine the writer of this article actually believes the cashiers at Kohl’s when they look at your receipt and say you saved “X” amount of dollars. Not sure how obamacare saved us any money when my son’s premium went from about $165 to $270 every month, that 40 dollar rebate didn’t make up for the extra $1,200 a year hike in premium.

The same math that tells us how many jobs were “saved” by obama’s economic policies.

A few more years and consumers will really save big bucks-—no medical services, no food, no fuel, no electricity, etc, etc...

If you tell a lie often enough....

Idiots. I”m worried about finding a doctor in the future - especially if there is an emergency. Who in that situation would be happy they were suckered into thinking they were gonna save a few bucks?

My Blue Cross/Blue Shield doubled.

You still got it? The better half's employer dropped it and they are a big player and we got shoved into an HMO.

No Oboingo, I didn't get to keep my policy...
