The figure that struck me was 655mph.My understanding is that commercial aircraft seldom exceed 525mph.I certainly could be wrong or the 655 is a misprint.

Usually fly faster than 525 mph.

For example, a typical flight from Dallas/Fort Worth en route to Madrid, Spain.

Was the figure air speed or ground speed? It was flying west to east, so couldn't there be a jet-stream pickup in the ground speed?
