If someone broke into your house and your wife or daughter was being raped, would you call the cops and "hope" they arrived in time or would you rather have a gun?

Michael Dukakis was asked a question very similar to that.
In the America I grew up in (70s/80s) it was not even a topic to ponder that a man would fight to the death defending his wife and children with whatever he could get his hands on to do it with. Or just his hands alone.
Today, such men are dubbed mentally unstable, violent, et all.
I think the core of this problem is pretty apparent. And it isn’t with those of us who still embrace the old ways.
