I first heard about this yesterday. my step mother texted me all freaked out. I called her, got the story and told her I wasn't suprised. I just wonder a few things, is he saying this to scare more tax dollars out of the residents? Which state will fire the first shot heard around the world?

Perhaps the residents of San Bernardino should investigate why in July 2012, "they became In July 2012 the largest city ever to choose to file for protection under Chapter 9 of the U.S. Bankruptcy code[6][7]. The case was filed on August 1".

San Bernardino is the poorest city of its population size in California, and the second poorest in the US next to Detroit, Michigan.

Surely there are areas that can be cut back rather than the safety and security of S.B.'s citizens. City government waste? Unsustainable pensions, a small cut there?

There are private sector solutions to personal security issues. From private security guards to high tech security equipment, the entire industry is growing. There will always be a need for some public police force, but no one should view the public police force as a first line of defense.

This city attorney is simply telling the truth.

Many communities have volunteer fire departments. Can we import that idea into policing? Must every officer be an employee?
