Perry doesn't have nearly as much power as Dewhurst.

And Dewhurst has done everything to stop conservatives, even if some stuff gets by. He's taking retribution on those that supported Cruz over him for Senate.

The blocking positions are the strong places in Texas government.

I'll do all I can to get rid of Dewhurst and Straus from Texas politics and retire them to their ranches.

Texas would be a much more conservative place without them.

People generally have a hard time understanding that there are no real powerful statewide political offices in Texas. Following reconstruction, the framers of the new constitution recognized that since no politician could be trusted to consistently do good they must all be constrained from doing harm. Power was dispersed in such a manner that no one person could do much by themselves. So far, it has worked out quite well.

OK, I'm confused. So if you don't like anyone in power, why is TX such a well run state?

Is it getting more difficult for Republicans to win elections or is it pretty much still a given? I have no idea the margin by which Cruz won.

Now there you go, Johnny - speaking words that are music to my ears.
