john hawkin is a conservative treasure.
If there was no 17th A then there would be ZERO chance of ever getting any type of GOP senator from a deep blue state, like yours or mine.
Not that there are going to be any elected anyway, the way things are going, but the 17th A gives a better than zero chance of electing a GOP.
