I've heard of "carbon black" which the writer should have written if not clueless.

I am utterly stunned that you have broken the PC Rule that prohibits using the “b” word as a modifier to carbon.

What will the MSNBC-Moms do when their preppy children notice pure Carbon on the carved Liberal smiling lips of their “Holiday” pumpkins?

“Darker than night” might be a good substitute for the “b” word.

Black carbon, carbon black or ‘lamp black’. Whichever way you want to say it it is one of the best ways to eliminate the glare from the sun on the ‘iron’ sights of your rifle or handgun to ensure a perfect sight picture. A field expedient method used when the finish is degraded. Burning any carbon based product will do although I would recommend a swab dipped in isopropyl alcohol, a sulfurous match or butane lighter flame when lacking lamp or gun oil.

Cheers preppers.

Well, these days it’s usually called “Carbon of Color.”

How many people know that without "black carbon", there would be no shiny diamonds?
