California Police Wish Gun Owners Would Just Comply with Robbers
If a couple of thugs break into your place of business and point a gun in your face, then you would be perfectly justified in opening fire on them, right? Well, maybe not. San Jose police are giving one gun owner a stern tsk-tsk after she defended her property from a pair of armed thieves.
According to ABC Local 7 News, a pair of thieves wearing masks and hooded sweatshirts burst into a San Jose jewelry store at 10:15 a.m. on Monday. At least one of the would-be thieves was armed.
The thieves probably thought that they were going to make off with a bag full of bling, but instead they nearly caught a bullet. The store owner, who was reportedly a woman, drew a pistol and leveled it at the two would-be thieves. She fired at least one shot but did not strike either of them it is unclear whether that was a warning shot or if she simply missed.
Either way, the bullet did its job. The two thieves quickly fled the store and made their escape in an SUV. Cops are currently looking for leads on the two suspects. According to Yahoo News, they are examining video surveillance and other tapes for clues.
In the meantime, the police are giving gun owners a piece of their mind. Albert Morales, the San Jose Police spokesman, said, "We don't recommend (drawing a gun or firing). We would have preferred that they just go ahead and comply with the request or demands of the robbers. Again they were after material items that could be replaced and again our biggest fear is that somebody would have gotten hurt, injured and possibly even died."
You know who else would have preferred that the jewelry store owner had just complied? The thieves. Who wouldve thought that cops and robbers would ever be able to agree on something?
Despite this, the police have not pressed charges against the gun owner probably because all she did was exercise a perfectly legal Constitutional right. The police agree that it's OK to open fire, but they're just expressing how much they dislike it. That isn't a big deal, right?
The problem is that when a statement like that comes from police, the subtle implication is that theres something inherently immoral or illegal about using a gun in self-defense. It could give people the wrong impression about firearms -- whether thats intentional or accidental is an entirely different debate.
If Morales should be scolding anybody, it should be the pair of thieves who threatened that woman. The fact of the matter is that there's nothing wrong with using a gun in self-defense as long as you comply with the laws in your locality. The opinion of the San Jose police is simply that -- an opinion.
Why don't you weigh in with your opinion? Did the store owner do the right thing, or should people across America put up their hands and do whatever robbers say? We know that thieves could get behind that slogan, but what do you think?
It seems counter-intuitive, then again, the fact that they didn't attack tells me that they weren't that committed anyway. I think most muggers want an easy score, they don't want to get hurt in the process. Also, if the lead guy was say, the brother of the other two, they might have been less inclined to pussy out and run to leave him to his fate, in which case, clinging on to him whilst doing all these gruesome things to him might have backfired, big-style if that was the case.
So you are a Prosecutor? Hard to believe because you don't even have a semblance of a grasp of the law. If so the Attorney General should fire you.
Is that why you are scared of an armed citizenry?
“Again they were after material items that could be replaced and again our biggest fear is that somebody would have gotten hurt, injured and possibly even died.”
How does morales know what all they were after? They could have abducted her or killed for the fun of it. The only thing she did wrong was to miss.
“However, I do agree with your sentiments.”
Which makes us brothers-in-arms.
Semper fi, buddy.
Question to you:
Why in Hell would you WAIT until they attacked? When I’m surrounded, I already know what their INTENT is.
PreEMPTIVE strikes are the most successful.
Again I say, you are an ABSTRACT thinker. You need to experience the real.
Taste that copper penny, then talk to me. Until then, you are only a guy who creates scenarios in his mind, and beats down straw men.
I have been beaten down for real. I have feared for my life for real. I have been beaten until I didn’t know what day it was.
And I was the “good guy.”
Have a nice night, you and I live in different worlds.
If I was lying, I could have made the lie a lot more exciting than what I said, I have fired guns (shotguns and rifles) plenty of times, at targets. What more can I say?
"Don't project your inadequacies on the rest of us who do carry, have training and plenty of practice.
I have had to pull my gun twice and though I didn't have to shoot it to resolve the situation I was prepared and ready to do so. Also my hand wasn't shaking like an old lady with palsy as you have stated yours would be. This is a serious subject and you should really keep your uninformed opinion and cowardly advice to yourself."
I'll ignore the unnecessarily rude tone of your answer. You may well have plenty of training and experience, and you may personally have experience of using it and being calm and in control, hey, for all I know, you could be the 21st century's answer to Wyatt Earp (I'll have to take your word on what you say, and unlike you, I will, as I have no evidence to disprove it) but that doesn't mean everyone will, and that is the point, most people who are not accustomed to violence will suffer a deterioration in fine motor skills when faced with a violent situation and their aim will suffer accordingly. There is a lot more to training how to do something than simply learning the mechanics of doing it. I might not have used a gun in those conditions, but I understand it from other aspects of self-defence...
You’re supposed to be drunk. Then it’s just fun. Come to rob me you get shot. Fun or not.
The police have never been responsible for protecting citizens and were never intended to be. They are supposed to be a deterrence and investigators after the fact.
Eaker,
What we have here is a failure to communicate. Sins is a bureauKaRatz.
No dialog can ever happen with a RATZ. They are a breed apart. They feed off the public teet and believe in their hearts that that is their “entitlement.” Their scut families and their little rug rats are their pride.
You, you low life civilian, are here only to feed their insatiable appetite for government “bennies.”
They are the “King’s Men”, and you are here to feed them.
Its a low point in the Republic. It was predicted. Sins is a product of the commie pig bastards that have undermined us.
Later.
They didn’t surround me, as I recall they approached me from the opposite direction with two of them diagonal to each other, one slightly behind the other, the third was about eight feet behind the second. They didn’t even get closer than about 5 feet, the ‘leader’ asked me for a lighter from about 15 feet, and thats when I changed my body language and demeanor, after which they kept their distance. They never did anything explicit enough to justify a pre-emptive attack, so I didn’t. If they had tried to surround me, it would have been a different matter.
I freely admit that my instincts are not honed like a person experienced in real violence, but again, I have come close enough to it to know that my judgement was affected and that I wouldn’t make the same decisions I would whilst sitting in my comfy chair. I certainly wouldn’t decide to piledrive someone into the path of a car in normal conditions, but I know that that is exactly what I was thinking in that moment, I was becoming very tunnel-visioned at that point.
Look, I’m from Texas and we don’t suffer fools well.
You continue to project your lack of knowledge, lack of experience, and lack of skills on the rest of us. Your posts make me think that you are from England and have never really been around guns. Certainly you have no clue of what it is like to live in a gun culture.
Guns are mystical magical things to you. They are tools to the rest of us. We use them, we take them apart and clean them. When they break we fix them. Some of us are alive because of them.
You are really out of your league on this thread and are making a fool out of yourself. You have as much business posting on this thread as a chicken has trying to play Texas Holdem. Stop while you are only this far behind.
Well said, very well said.
Hey Sins,
Not a trick question, are you black?
Maybe he lost his shovel? :)
Thank you Citizen Soldier. Thank you a lot.
Peace be to you and yours, and let Christmas and the birth of Jesus bring you good fortune.
Chaz
Amen Brother.
But, if you had decided to piledrive someone into the path of a car (as part of your defensive activities), couldn't the car driver have swerved to avoid hitting that person, hitting some other pedestrians and/or one or more other cars?
Wouldn't the possible results (unplanned injuries to innocents) have been equivalent to the woman who fired the shots in defense of herself?
Just because you wouldn't have been using a gun doesn't mean bad things wouldn't/couldn't have happened because of your decisions/actions. Should the car driver(s)/other innocents involved taken action to sue you into oblivion?
LOL
I know a whole lot of BLACK Americans who are good patriots. They know how to fly the flag, back up the Constitution, and just go about their business.
Unfortunately, there aren’t enough of them.
And to my friend!
