“phobeo” also translates as “to be in awe, to revere, to hold in reverence.

Proverbs 1:7
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

I will never fear God. As God is Love and His perfect Love casts out all fear.

Open a Bible sometime. The love of God is only part of the story.

I don't think you have a Biblical understanding of what is meant by fear. If you did, you wouldn't have said "I will never fear God."

Fear (not in the sense of being afraid) is essential to our relationship with God and the beginning of wisdom. I ask this question: Do you believe the Bible is the inspired and inerrant word of God? If so...here are some verses for you to ponder...research and meditate on:

Psalms 111:10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; all those who practice it have a good understanding. His praise endures forever!

Proverbs 1:7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Proverbs 1:29 Because they hated knowledge and did not choose the fear of the LORD,

Proverbs 2:5 then you will understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God.

Proverbs 8:13 The fear of the LORD is hatred of evil. Pride and arrogance and the way of evil and perverted speech I hate.

Proverbs 9:10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight.

Proverbs 10:27 The fear of the LORD prolongs life, but the years of the wicked will be short.

Proverbs 14:26 In the fear of the LORD one has strong confidence, and his children will have a refuge.

Proverbs 14:27 The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, that one may turn away from the snares of death.

Proverbs 15:16 Better is a little with the fear of the LORD than great treasure and trouble with it.

Proverbs 15:33 The fear of the LORD is instruction in wisdom, and humility comes before honor. Proverbs 16:6 By steadfast love and faithfulness iniquity is atoned for, and by the fear of the LORD one turns away from evil.

Proverbs 19:23 The fear of the LORD leads to life, and whoever has it rests satisfied; he will not be visited by harm.

Proverbs 22:4 The reward for humility and fear of the LORD is riches and honor and life.

Proverbs 23:17 Let not your heart envy sinners, but continue in the fear of the LORD all the day.

Isaiah 11:2, 3 And the Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the LORD. And his delight shall be in the fear of the LORD. He shall not judge by what his eyes see, or decide disputes by what his ears hear,"

Acts 9:31 So the church throughout all Judea and Galilee and Samaria had peace and was being built up. And walking in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, it multiplied.

2 Corinthians 5:11 Therefore, knowing the fear of the Lord, we persuade others. But what we are is known to God, and I hope it is known also to your conscience. "

In the third grade, preparing for Confirmation, I learned that ‘Fear of the Lord’ was fearing to do anything to injure my relationship with God.

Matthew 10:28
Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

Yes, God is Love. He is also Lord, Master and Judge. He rules in righteousness which means that all truth is His and we transgress His Will at our peril. Never forget that God has complete and ultimate control. If you don't hold Him in the kind of awe that He deserves, you don't understand him.

In Revelation, John was so awestruck at Jesus's appearance that he fell at His feet "as one dead". THAT is what RG3 is talking about.

>>>>I will check each of them. I expect the original Greek or Hebrew word translates to “Reverence” rather than fear.

Nope. In the Greek...the word used is phobos.

Fear. Claustrophobia...fear of closed, small spaced. ____phobic...fear of whatever.

PHOBOS.

In the Hebrew...its yir'âh. That is also fear...mixed with reverence....but not just reverence alone.

That’s the translation I had always heard, “awe”. Considering that He created the Universe just by speaking, that He created humankind knowing very well the price He would pay, and that He sent His Son to live as a man and die on a cross... well, all I can say is that we serve an awesome God!

Because of RG3, the unthinkable is happening here in Dallas, more and more people actually rooted for the Redskins against the Cowboys. RG3 is Jerry Jones’ biggest nightmare.

Traced every one of these scriptures back and the two words translated to fear in the edition you use can also be translated as reverence. (I use Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance)

Tell me, how can you be in fear and also: Matthew 22:37
He said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’

Ephesians 5:2
and live in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.

2 Thessalonians 3:5
May the Lord direct your hearts to the love of God and to the steadfastness of Christ.

2 Timothy 1:7
for God did not give us a spirit of cowardice, but rather a spirit of power and of love and of self-discipline.

1 John 4:7
[ God Is Love ] Beloved, let us love one another, because love is from God; everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.

1 John 4:8
Whoever does not love does not know God, for God is love.

1 John 4:16
So we have known and believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and those who abide in love abide in God, and God abides in them.

1 John 5:1
[ Faith Conquers the World ] Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves the parent loves the child.

1 John 5:2
By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments.

Jude 1:21
keep yourselves in the love of God; look forward to the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life.

And most important:

1 John 4:18
There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear; for fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not reached perfection in love.

Theo... Then explain just this one scripture section: 1John 4

16 God is love, and those who abide in love abide in God, and God abides in them. 17 Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness on the day of judgment, because as he is, so are we in this world. 18 There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear; for fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not reached perfection in love. 19 We love because he first loved us. 20 Those who say, “I love God,” and hate their brothers or sisters, are liars; for those who do not love a brother or sister whom they have seen, cannot love God whom they have not seen. 21 The commandment we have from him is this: those who love God must love their brothers and sisters also.

Shouldn’t you both be using the same meaning? Sounds like the meaning of fear is relative to the person’s reference.

Fear of God is a basic religious foundation....first, you fear...and once God has your attention, then you love and respect, and obey....

Correct. That was also RGIII's use of the word as well.

You misinterpreted the word as he used it.
