You got that right. Obama has already gotten what he wanted. This whole fiscal cliff mess was his own invention 15 months ago. Republicans vote to raise the debt ceiling by $2.5 trillion with the promise that spending cuts representing 1/15th of the total deficit would ensue. The rise in the debt ceiling was promised to carry us through March 2013. If you look at that bill, you will find both Mitch McConnell and John Boehner voting in the affirmative. You will also find Baraq Obama's signature at the bottom.

The one ace in the hole that the Republicans have is in regard to raising the debt ceiling again. If they hold firm in just that one thing, they win.
