I think the dem plan is to run out the clock, and have taxes rise, defense be cut, all the “fiscal cliff” stuff, then blame the pubbies for not “compromising”, and in a year, that will be Official Reality.
Walking away plays right into that.
I think the message has to be Mr. President, present YOUR plan. Rush is isn’t saying that here, but I believe he’s mentioned it in the past week. This circus, like last year’s debt debate is a loser for our side. We can’t win the PR debate no matter the result. The President has the bully pulpit and a compliant media. With the ‘cliff’ completely baked into existing law, there is nothing we can do to win issue if all the discussion is done by senior leaders behind closed doors. We got beat last year in this same scenario (and the narrative for the reelection was born). We need to stand back and demand leadership, and have Obama put his fingerprints on the cuts. He is letting us present all the unpopular solutions, and then the media/Dems will pin them on our party.
I've just about given up.....
Not if they vote present. How much more compromising can you be than to simply get out of their way?
