Democrats and Republicans are so far off in their expectations for the next steps of fiscal talks that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) claimed he cannot understand the Republican Speaker’s brain.
Senate Democratic leaders are growing frustrated by what they say is the lack of a specific plan from House Republicans to raise tax revenues or cut entitlement spending.
Democrats say the onus is on Republicans to provide a counteroffer to their plan to let the Bush-era tax rates on families earning above $250,000 expire.
Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) has told reporters the ball is in the Democrats’ court and called on President Obama to lead by offering a detailed plan to cut spending.
“I don’t understand his brain, so you should ask him,” Reid said when asked about the disconnect between him and Boehner.
Democrats argue they have already made their proposal to raise $900 billion for a down payment on the deficit at year’s end. They say Republicans should offer plans to cut entitlement spending, because that is the GOP’s priority.
“Is Boehner saying nothing? Then we’re negotiating with ourselves. Boehner has not had one specific proposal. The Republicans have had not one specific proposal. They can do it on the tax side, they can do it on the spending side. What do they propose,” said Sen. Charles Schumer (N.Y.), the third-ranking member of the Senate Democratic leadership.
Schumer said Republican leaders’ general offer to find ways to raise revenues to reduce the deficit was “nothing.”
Schumer noted the Democratic down payment would raise income tax rates on families earning above $250,000, raise the capital gains rate to 20 percent and set the estate tax rate at 45 percent.
He does have a point. WTF IS the republican position?

You could fill a room full of books and documents with things that Harry Reid doesn’t understand. Starting with the Constitution.
By the way, I wonder who hates John Boehner more: Harry Reid or a bunch of posters here on Free Republic.

We wouldn’t expect someone with a brain the size of Reid’s to understand much of anything. Ditto for those who voted for him.

If Boehner had any brains and guts, he would point out the last couple years of crap Dingy Harry has pulled, explain why it hurts the People, and say that maybe Harry’s brain just doesn’t work well enough to understand other folk’s brains.

Hmm, how about I say I’m not going to raise taxes for a few days, let the media beat up on genuine conservatives, then “grow” in office a few days later when I fold.
Enough Republicans will join House Democrats to pass tax increases and Republicans can still get blamed for the bad economy.
They don’t want entitlement reforms. How are you going to make them want entitlement reforms.
The 'Rats *DO* have a plan to cut entitlements. And to SIGNIFICANTLY cut them to the bone. They just won't discuss this... even to the point of creating an atmosphere where to even whisper this plan, you become a object to be castigated and ridiculed and relegated to the conspiracy nut corner.
We all know this plan, as they do: Apply cloward-piven to the hilt until the currency collapses. 'Rats will then be in position to take on harder tyrannical control, creating an atmosphere where all entitlements can go poof, and the govt 'Rats are insulated from repercussions!
It takes one to understand one.
To understand a brain, you have to have one first, right?
There are a handful of people in the world that would just be fun to punch in the face. Harry Reid is one of those. What a disgusting cretin. Why is he allowed to act like a buffoon constantly without any repercussions? (Other than the fact that he is a Democrat)
