I still push back a bit against Rush’s theory that this is “what people voted for”. Does he really believe that a majority of those who voted were smart enough or informed enough on the differences in political philosophy between Obama and Romney to know what they were voting for?

NOPE!

They were TOLD that Romney just lies in debates and that the Republicans WILL ALWAYS BE the root of every problem whether in power or out of power. After 4 years, Obama continued to Blame Bush and stated over and over that Romney would return us to those years. The Media stated over and over that Romney does not care about 47% of Americans. Women were told that their wombs would no longer be their own if Romney were elected, AND Obama said that if not for the Obstructionism of the last two years of the Republican House, our economy would be thriving.

The Republicans did a HORRIBLE JOB of refuting the initial PREMISE! Over and over, they accepted the line that Obama INHERITED A REPUBLICAN-LED disaster. At no time did they aggressively point out that Obama was PRESENT in Congress for four years prior to his first term and at no time did they aggressively point out that Pelosi, Reid, Dodd and Frank hold almost complete responsibility for the initial crash! There was so much ammo and most was not used.
