Experienced negotiators, and poker players, always look for the opponents tell -- that one little blink or tic that helps them see through the opponents deception to reveal what the opponent is really thinking or what cards he really holds.
For those Republicans who thought Obama was actually serious about avoiding the governments fiscal cliff, he just blinked and revealed his cards and they show a hand that Democrats have held before and know how to play to entice Republicans into making a sucker bet.
What Obama said to reveal his hand was that Congress should pass his tax increase plan now and hold-off on making any decisions on spending cuts until next year.
To Capitol Hills establishment Republican politicians, never eager in the first place to make the hard choices involved in reducing spending, this sounded like manna from Heaven: an opportunity to pass a tax increase they see as inevitable, while looking reasonable and kicking the can down the road on cutting spending.
This is a sucker bet that got Republicans skunked when they raised taxes and President George H.W. Bush went back on his read my lips, no new taxes pledge.
And it is a sucker bet that even President Ronald Reagan, with all his political skill, took to his regret.

These are the looters, the Bailout Babies of 2008. This will result in acceleration of:
1. Continued diminished purchases.
2. Hence unemployment and business closing.
3. Due to #2, Extortion-Care fines and penalties, becomes the Federal WorkCamp.

I like that idea. Take a page from obama’s book and vote “present”
If McConnell or Boehner had any guts they’d say:
“Well Lucy, You can take that football and shove it where the sun don’t shine!”
Whimpy’s line, about: “I’ll gladly pay you tomorrow, for a hamburger today.”, is also apt, but the reference is a bit dated for most.
But if they do that they might not be reelected: a thought that induces night terrors in today's professional political class. What about those lush retirement and medical benefits? The media attention and glitzy parties, not to mention the under-the-table "extras" provided by lobbyists?
The Republic died the day Americans allowed politics to become a profession and not a civic calling.
The Republicans should vote "present," in both the House and the Senate, and publicly state that this is the Democrat's plan, lock, stock, and barrel.
It will be easy to know when Mc Connel is ready to cave. He will give a very tough-talking, conservative’s dream speech on the Senate floor immediately preceding his total capitulation.
Except it didn’t matter how many times the football was pulled away, Charlie Brown still talked himself into believing that THIS was the one time it wouldn’t. The triumph of hope over experience.
What’s really crazy is that Obama promised in 2008 a “net spending cut” if he was elected. He actually accused McCain of being the big spender.

Obama got to the White House voting present. So I agree with you. Vote present and let the Dims own it.

Down the memory hole!
The Ministry of Truth demands it!
It’s much more lucrative for Obama to fiscally destroy the nation.
He gains much more doing that then he would by actually performing good stewardship over the nation.
Hence tghe actions designed to do the opposite of what is right and opposite of what he initially ran on.
Yep, I caught that, too. Much like Nancy's pass it now and we'll read it later. That worked out well, didn't it.
The narrative is being framed around the GOP has to do something. The GOP doesn’t have to do anything, this is the deal they negotiated mid-year. It was designed to push the issue down the road and make it look like both sides have to do something.
If they’re not willing to standby what they already agreed what makes us think that ‘tax now’ cuts later is going to work?
All bills must originate in the house, start passing bills for what you want in piecemeal fashion and keep the pressure on the DEM held Senate — keep the DEMS holding things up. Because we all *KNOW* beyond any certainty that ‘cuts later’ aren’t going to happen. If the GOP capitulates now, they DEMS will only start asking for more.
Obama’s goal is to destroy America and blame Republicans.
It is best we limit the damage, as we’ll be blamed regardless.
Then, mount a takeover of the Senate in 2014, and stop the bastard!
I would like to see us go over the cliff for real. I would end up paying much higher taxes but we would get way more spending cuts than any other deal will include. Then in Feb when its time to raise the debt ceiling just refuse and tell dems in senate they will have to pass their first budget in over three years and oh yeah... it needs to be balanced on a dollar in basis. No more borrowing. This would also take the fed out of the bond buying business because the us would not need to sell bonds anymore.
