TRENTON, NJ Gov. Chris Christie says Superstorm Sandy caused $36.8 billion in damage in New Jersey.
Christie is requesting that amount, which is greater than his state's entire budget, from the federal government.
Christie says more than 30,000 homes or businesses were destroyed or sustained substantial damage from last month's storm.

Nothing near the damage this fat ass caused to the whole country by sucking up to the Jug-eared Dictator!
of course it did...
and the ‘cleanup’ will last well into january...
all union labor paid by the state/federal govt, of course
/eye-rolling-sarcasm
and yes, YOU are paying for this even if you live in new mexico, texas or florida. because the money the state doesn’t have... comes from the fed.. which comes from YOU
You can check on Trulia or search for towns such as Bayhead, Beach Haven, Point Pleasant Beach, Margate, etc., for just the home values. The infrastructure in some of these areas looked war-torn. The police station in Bayhead, completely gone. The fire department in another town, completely gone. Not to mention the coastline itself. The fishing industry, marinas, etc.
Say what you want about Christie, say what you want about NJ, but the fact remains that the destruction of this area from this storm was/is a nightmare. I can't imagine what the cost will be to rebuild coastline to protect the inland from future storms will be.
Using your formula, sadly, I imagine the cost to be even higher than currently estimated.
Well there goes that One Billion Dollar spending cut by Reid.
Just why rebuild on shoreline where you can be guaranteed another storm will flood/destroy it again? Shouldn’t those who choose to live in such areas have some personal responsibility? No...not in nobamaworld. Happy times are here again.
http://www.nj.com/news/index.ssf/2012/11/hurricane_sandys_destruction_a.html An analysis of aerial imagery by the Federal Emergency Management Agency shows more than 500 buildings were destroyed outright, reduced to piles of debris, caved in or sliced into chunks.
An additional 5,000 structures suffered major damage from flooding or high winds, and some 24,000 were seen with minor damage. Floodwaters settled in tens of thousands of others, according to the federal agencys preliminary damage assessments.
The same type of storm could happen again, but it is considered unlikely. There is 121 miles of the "Jersey shore." The surge was so high, the ocean met the bay up and down the coast. In addition, in North Jersey (much more densely populated) there were people that did not have flood insurance.
When these type of disasters occur in other parts of the country, everyone has and will pay. We will all pay either through taxes or insurance rates. Regardless of who or how likeable the governor is. My only hope is that they will use the money properly and rebuild wisely. This is not only a natural disaster to the area, but an economic one as well.
I will agree with you that the total estimated damages should not be covered by FEMA. People were paying insurance fees, as well. In any case, there are people that feel fortunate just to be alive. Hopefully, that will carry them through as their lives will never be the same.
Don’t worry, Governor - we’ll just print more money.
Don’t worry gov. you’ve got the Communist Messiah on your side. Give him another hug or two and everything will be aok.
