This is laughable. The idea that Sandy caused more damage along the New Jersey shoreline than the entire state budget of New Jersey is just crazy. Christie says that 30,000 homes and businesses were destroyed OR sustained substantial damage. The devil is in the detail of what "substantial" means. For argument's sake, let's say that the 30,000 structures suffered an average of $500,000 in damage. 30,000 x 500,000 = 15 billion. And I think that is a ludicrously high figure. And a lot of this was or should have been covered by insurance. The public has got to wake up to there being no such thing as free money and stop accepting as compassion the taking of other people's money by taxes, dilution by running the printing presses or the indebting of future generations.

Actually, $37 billion is going to turn out to be exceedingly low, although the exact impact on the New Jersey economy will be difficult to pin down.
You see, Sandy is credited with giving Obama a last minute boost in the last election. The loss for the nation will be in the $trillions.

Christie can just go to his new BFF, who will give him our tax dollars for “rebuilding.”
To: Stingray51
Christie is requesting that amount, which is greater than his state's entire budget, from the federal government.Yeah, I'm sure Obama is going to get right on that. /s

Hey Christie, let your *&#@&*+ unions repair things.
Before they shove themselves up their smelly Obamas.
As for you, you RINO, please precede the unions in that smelly Obama trip into darkness.

Looks like this is where the rubber meets the road, Mr. Christie.
Was the short term benefit your dog and pony show to make 0 look good after Sandy worth it?

Well, GOOD LUCK, Governor!
Of course he can "request" it -- but I doubt Obama has much left in his "stash" after paying for food stamps and Obamaphones and stuff.
Christie isn't going to get anything near that amount, and he knows it!
BTW I believe the Federal Flood Insurance program only covers up to a maximum of $250k + $100k contents for a home or $500k for a business. Since the bad damage was mostly due to storm surge flooding, a lot of homeowners and businesses have big uninsured losses after Sandy. The FEMA low-interest loans probably aren't such a bad deal if someone was planning on a teardown anyway -- otherwise, not. And most weren't.

CC did himself more damage than he knows by recklessly prostituting himself to the ‘O’ big spending agenda!
It cost him and the rest of US plenty... that is what a lot of people will remember when they are asked to ‘help out’!

You forget the kickbacks to the three major organized crime syndicates: the mob, the unions, and the democrats.
