Burglaries are up a startling 43 percent in Oakland this year compared to last, part of an ever-growing crime problem in the city.
According to the latest numbers from the Oakland Police Department, more than 11,000 homes, cars or businesses have been broken into so far this year translating to about 33 burglaries a day. The most popular targets have been cars with more than 5,700 burglarized so far this year.
One of the most likely reasons for the sharp uptick in crime city officials said they believe its the gradual loss of police officers from the force.
The city could be down to a little more than 600 officers by February, which would be 200 fewer than in 2008. Even with another 40 expected to graduate from Police Academy, they will be rookies and there is already talk of trying to contract with outside agencies for support.

they always cut cops to punish citizens..so people will pay tax hikes. same with cutting schools.
Forty three percent of the residents of Detroit cannot read or write. (Same as New Orleans)
They probably give them spray and rubber pellets to fight the gangs..The police commissioner may times will not accept or say publicly that their cities are being infested with gangs. I lived in 3 cities where the police chiefs just ignored them(not privately, though). Now, the gangs are out of control in those same cities. Those cops take alot of stuff from the political correctness management, which is the problem across America. They are letting go the real investigative cops who should be in the top positions having in place solid programs to support the cops and let them enforce the laws and replacing them with use your feelings attitude as a cop.
Instead of blaming a lack of cops - how about blaming a lack of class on the residents of Oakland. Bunch of friggen low-life’s.
should read NOT by replacing them with “use your feelings attitude” as a cop.
This is why they are firing cops to replace them with new ones who have went through a new style of PC training.
The Oakland Mayor has openly embraced the Occupiers while criticizing and blocking the police force from doing their job. The buck stops with her.
Cops are being politically correct neutered.
Obamanation coming undone, no unicorns spotted as of yet.
Then along that river-bank, A thousand miles
Tattooed cannibals danced in files;
Then I heard the boom of the blood-lust song
And a thigh-bone beating on a tin-pan gong.
And “BLOOD” screamed the whistles and
the fifes of the warriors,
“BLOOD” screamed the skull-faced, lean witch-doctors,
“Whirl ye the deadly voodoo rattle,
Harry the uplands, Steal all the cattle,
Rattle-rattle, rattle-rattle, Bing!
Boomlay, boomlay, boomlay, Boom!”
— Vachel Lindsay, ‘The Congo’ (1912)
bingo! Perfect description of Oakland and several other Dem-controlled urban areas. The GOP can start winning back swing states when they start running political ads highlighting exactly what you just said. These ads will be very, very offensive to libs...and very effective.
Oakland is a city which is located on the San Francisco Bay, directly across the water from San Francisco. It has better weather, better geography and half the fruits and nuts of San Francisco. It has a very large under-utilized port area. It is a transportation hub. However, it is governed by the same lunatic, liberal leadership as exists in San Francisco. People love San Francisco (I can’t imagine why)but Oakland was a baby, strangled in its crib. I have no sympathy for the residents of Oakland. It is they, who voted-in the government they have!
Oakland Mayors from 1977: Lionel Wilson, Elihu Harris, Jerry Brown, Ronald Dellums and Jean “the Queen” Quan.....all hard left radicals.
It sounds like Oakland has a severe lack of midnight basketball.
Yeah. Sure. That's the ticket! Bureaucrats think we should have more government/union thugs. I am so surprised!
I stand with the dogs of Oakland in hoping that the thugs keep leaving and the honest citizens take care of themselves.
