Stuart Stevens was the chief strategist for the Romney presidential campaign.
Over the years, one of the more troubling characteristics of the Democratic Party and the left in general has been a shortage of loyalty and an abundance of self-loathing. It would be a shame if we Republicans took a narrow presidential loss as a signal that those are traits we should emulate.
I appreciate that Mitt Romney was never a favorite of D.C.s green-room crowd or, frankly, of many politicians. Thats why, a year ago, so few of those people thought that he would win the Republican nomination. But that was indicative not of any failing of Romneys but of how out of touch so many were in Washington and in the professional political class. Nobody liked Romney except voters. What began in a small field in New Hampshire grew into a national movement. It wasnt our campaign, it was Romney. He bested the competition in debates, and though he was behind almost every candidate in the GOP primary at one time or the other, he won the nomination and came very close to winning the presidency.

Loser.
Romney, the man, I like and respect.
Romney, the RINO, I loathe and f*rt in the general direction of.
Repulsican “leadership” (an oxymoron, if ever there was one) should just put a large plastic bag over each of their collective little heads, seal the bags, and do us all a favor.
GOP 2012: Giving america a clear choice at election time. You could vote for the liberal, anti gun, big government architect of the new health care law...or you could vote for obama.
Oh, and don’t forget about the smart tactic of telling all of the libertarians to get lost. After all, romney had millions of votes to spare!
But hey, go ahead and keep thinking romney really won and it was all voter fraud.
It seems to me that Mittens spent MOST of his time from early and mid 2008 Stabbing John McPain and ALL Conservatives in the Back after his GOP-e loss in the Primaries that year. Just Like John McPain spent MOST of the 2000s Stabbing George W. Bush and ALL Conservative in the Back after his loss in 2000. Let’s face it RINOS and the GOP-e are NOTHING BUT BACK-STABBERS!
Doesn't matter now though. And come 2016, no more softy-moderates! No more RINOs. That little yarn about moderates being so much more 'electable' than real conservatives has worn seriously thin.
What a load of bull chips. And I haven’t even got beyond the opening where he declares the GOPe a year ago didn’t think Romney would win the nomination.
It absolutely was voter fraud, in plain sight. No way there were fewer voters than in 08. No way. This is not the first time it has happened, and it won’t be the last. Why is it that our neighbor, Canada, has legitimate voter ID laws and we don’t? Can you answer that? It wouldn’t matter if we had had Winston Churchill as our candidate, we would have lost. Romney was a decent man and certainly more electable than the other damaged and weak Republican candidates.
Okay, I’m getting a little further in now, and he declared that anyone making less than $50K a year is below the middle class.
...And just leave the USELESS republican party!
I did, because they are not worth fighting for any more. Conservatism is worth the struggle, but the republican party can GFT!
Although I admittedly am not a medical man, it was quite difficult for me to tell if this Mormon Milquetoast Bland-o-Rama was alive or dead. Seriously. Did anyone ever hold up a mirror to his nostrils, slap him, pinch his cheeks? Any reaction?
I blame the loss on The Mormon Milquetoast going into some sort of "Prevent Defense" when the Rocket Surgeons who ran his campaign told him he was "ahead" after the first debate. The Mombasa MF gave him a tremendous opening on Benghazi in debate 2, which Mitt muffed.
I also remain unconvinced that fraud was not a major factor in the Marxist Mulatto's wins in those "Swing States." BTW, I am a Sore-Loser!
Not enough of them. Wotta maroon!

Yeah. With a shiv between the ribs.
I think he did alright, truth is, probably never were going to overcome the Democrat voting Machine, and I don’t mean fraud, but just the way they can turn out voters (homeless, minorities, etc, etc). Thats all this was really, if you look at how they managed this over the past 4 years, you will see that the Republicans were clearly outmaneuvered in that arena. No need to hate.
“He bested the competition in debates, and though he was behind almost every candidate in the GOP primary at one time or the other, he won the nomination and came very close to winning the presidency.”
What a lying SOB. Romney was handpicked by the GOP establishment to run for president. All others were never given a chance. No matter how bad Romney ever did in a debate he was always considered he winner...just by showing up and “looking presidential”. Fox News shamelessly supported the old RINO. All the liberal media shamelessly supported Romney while viciously attacking the other candidates. The Kenyan completely ignored the other candidates and started attacking Romney DURING THE GOP primary. One of the main reasons Romney lost was his incompetent campaign staff, led by this jerk. They hid their candidate from talk shows and refused to let him be questioned so people could really get to know him. Then they hogtied him after the first debate. Stevens was a liability to Romney, but Romney didn’t have enough sense to get rid of him.
Romney was the most libertarian candidate that republicans have ever run.
The problem was not that he wasn’t liberal enough to attract libertarians.
GO AWAY!
The more I think about this, the more accurate I realize it is. And he wasn't even a good Libertarian.
