Obama on tax cuts: Don’t ‘screw this up,’ Washington

President Barack Obama urged Americans on Wednesday to help him pressure Congress to prevent a Jan. 1 tax hike on the middle class, saying it was up to the public to make sure Washington doesn't "screw this up."

"When the American people speak loudly enough, lo and behold Congress listens," Obama said, flanked by Americans who answered the White House's call to detail what that tax increase would cost them personally.

"We really need to get this right. I can only do it with the help of the American people," the president said. "It's too important for Washington to screw this up."

Obama's remarks were part of a ramped-up public campaign to pressure Republicans in Congress, who have resisted his calls for letting Bush-era tax cuts that chiefly benefit the wealthiest Americans expire. The president wants to extend reductions on income up to $200,000 for individuals and $250,000 for families. But he wants taxes above that level to rise in order to spare popular government programs from the budget-cutter's ax.

I'm confused.

These are the so called "Bush Tax Cuts For The Rich" that are expiring. How can there be any middle class tax increase? For 10 years progressive scum have told me these were only for the rich, how can middle class taxes go up?

This is all so confusing, I glad we have a smart man like Obama in charge. /s

As I said already, Rs in congress already lost this fight but they are not yet ready to tell us they have. They will tell us by passing the bills that O demands.

Republicans are just no match for O in these fights, Republicans (in congress are just too stupid) to beat him. They are just his Serfs now.

0bama will run out the 'fiscal cliff' clock so that he can hold military pay hostage in exchange for raising taxes. Book it, BET ON IT, bank it, list it, count on it. 0bama has absolutely NO interest in compromising with Republicans. They'll be forced to accept tax hikes or else be painted as villains for causing military pay to be withheld or be blamed for some other horrific byproduct of a stalemate.

'Compromise' means 'Democrats get their way'. There is no other alternative. Four more years of this.. ARGH!!!

I think you’re right. But regardless, the corrupt MSM, otherwise known as the DNC, will surely blame Republicans no matter what they do. And the American Idol public will buy it hook, line, and sinker. Therefore, give Obama everything he wants and let it burn to the ground.

I distinctly remember Obama yelling “fire!” when he had to have his $800 billion stimulus. He said if he didn’t get it America would collapse. Well, we got it and it did absolutely nothing except add more crushing debt on our backs.

Obama is again yelling “fire!” Americans voted for Obama, let them get impaled as they let Obama push them to their financial death.
