A Rhode Island lawmaker is calling Gov. Lincoln Chafee Governor Grinch after he defied lawmakers and decided that the state would have a holiday tree instead of a Christmas tree.
The governor defended his decision by arguing that it is in keeping with the states founding in 1636 by religious dissident Roger Williams as a haven for tolerance where government and religion were kept separate.
Instead of arguing over the tree, the governor called on lawmakers to focus their energy on feeding the poor.
I would encourage all those engaged in this discussion whatever their opinion on the matter to use their energy and enthusiasm to make a positive difference in the lives of their fellow Rhode Islanders, Chafee told the Associated Press.
But Rep. Doreen Costa, called the governor a Grinch.
Hes just to the left as far as left as you can possibly be, the Republican lawmaker told Fox News & Commentary. He tries to be politically correct 24-7.
Costa sponsored a resolution last January declaring the tree customarily erected in December be referred to as a Christmas tree and not as a holiday tree or other non-traditional terms.
He is refusing to honor whats passed in the House of Representatives, she said. Thats more concerning than anything else.

Let’s start banding together regadless of how blue the given state might be.
I remember.
Too funny, you’re gonna make some heads explode !!
Which “Holiday” would that be? 4th of July, Thanksgiving, Memorial Day (sarc)
Which “Holiday” would that be? 4th of July, Thanksgiving, Memorial Day (sarc)
More PC horse sh*t, featuring a lame governor who’s too cowardly to come out as an atheist anti-Christian, so he attempts to defend his BS by hiding behind some moldy - and utterly irrelevant - old religious dissident of three hundred fifty years ago.
Strap some b*lls on, Governor Chickensh*t, and say what you mean: “I wanted to take a cr*p on Christians and Christianity, and show how hip I am with the current trend in bashing American traditions, and that’s what I did!”
I also noticed that all of the radio commercials now talk about the “holiday season” instead of the Christmas season. The power of revision.
Sure, ping me when they want to get some common courtesy and join the decent humans.
Or, I can just check the next election results.

My point, LH, is that many “blue” states have a large proportion of Conservatives even though the percentage might not be the majority. And in the case there’s a small percentage, it would be good to account for that minority as well.
BTTT
How long before Chafee demands a change to the state capital's name?
Why listen to any show that runs such ads? I suggest turning it off and telling them why. We may not have the strength and the numbers to stop the revisionism, but we sure don’t have to support it.
Don’t forget that Chaffee was FULLY SUPPORTED by the Republican Establishment on his last Senate re-election bid. That even included personal campaigning by President Bush. He still lost. And by that time, he was nearly voting in line with the Democrats.
Why was he supported by The Establishment so strongly on what was a hopeless race anyway (to the point where others probably lost due to Chaffee taking money)?
1) He was an incumbent
2) He wasn’t a conservative
That’s it. Those are the rules if you want money from the Republican Senatorial Committee, or whoever they are.
I guess the question would be, “Which Holiday does the tree signify?”
“A holiday tree ( or bush ) is what one buys in Muslim countries where Christmas is illegal.”
Then this is a “holiday tree”; I hope retailers have a miserable “holiday season”. They deserve it for running ads saying “20 days left” and “ten days left” without ever saying “Christmas”...Ten days left to what?
We just got out first “holiday card” from friends of my wife; it has a picture of their 2 kids on a beach (and makes no mention of Christmas, though both were baptized Christians).
How stupid; what Christian would even send such a card? It would be as suitable in March or August...
What ‘holiday’ would that be?
“festival of trees” “festival of lights” “holiday tree”. Anything so they don’t call it Christmas!
I’m tired of politicians kissing the a$$e$ of people who would slice our necks if we tried to put up a Christmas tree in their countries.
That beach card is sent to show friends that they took a vacation and that their children are beautiful. It’s all about them. Certainly, it’s not about honoring the birth of Jesus, our Savior.
If we are too ashamed of being a Christian to send the “good tidings of great joy,” we aren’t much of a Christian.
And yet even that doesn't explain why the left can't stand the word "Christmas"
