I don't understand the metallurgy of alloy color, but nickels are indeed 75% copper and 25% nickel.

Nickel has some pretty strong mojo, I guess. The 1.75”D shaft on my boat is made of Monel, which is an alloy of copper, nickel, a bit of silicon and iron.It's silver gray in color, when not covered in barnacles. And it's both tougher and more corrosion resistant than stainless steel. On the downside, it costs more.
