A man who killed two teenagers in his home in Little Falls on Thanksgiving Day told investigators he shot and wounded the two at close range before "finishing" them with shots to the head.
Byron David Smith, 64, was charged Monday, Nov. 26, in Morrison County District Court with two counts of second-degree murder without premeditation in the deaths of Nicholas Brady, 17, and his cousin Haile Kifer, 18.
Smith claims Brady and Kifer broke into his home and he was "fearful" they had weapons, according to the criminal complaint.

stuff ~ guys in japan read it on the way to work on the subway
“When someone breaks into your house and you shoot them dead PLEASE invite me to your execution. PRETTY PLEASE?”
Not necessary here. In Texas the ‘castle’ law is still the law of the land around here.
They have ~ this is a federal police force guy ~ not a building guard. He’s trained and experienced and nuttier than a mounds bar!
Well then make sure your wife reads this story, especially this part:
"Then Smith positioned the revolver's barrel under her chin and pulled the trigger in what he described as a "good, clean finishing shot" meant to end her suffering, he said."
Yep Smith should be one of your heroes. Someone for you and your wife to look to and emulate. Maybe you can send him some of your advice when he is sitting in that jail cell.
Ahhhh,, i see. Understood.
What we do know though, is that the guys admits murdering them and moving the bodies, the girl while still alive, before he finished her off with one under her chin.
We also know that after moving the bodies, he waited until the next day to do anything about it.
Post 55 mentions some details.
Ahhhh,, i see. Understood.
Looking at what he admits to it does seem he’s trying to hide something ~ like, maybe he thinks if he tells them where all the bullets went they won’t do a thorough autopsy.
You should read the story before posting.
The way you were posting I thought you had already performed the autopsy.
Not really, I knew you were just making crap up out of whole cloth like a busybody old lady.
Another zinger!
LOL!
You are hot tonight!
Agreed.
My gut tells me his whole story is bs. I don’t believe they broke in. They just walked for miles in the snow and decided randomly to walk across his spread and break into his house? Theres no mention of them having a vehicle nearby. Then thre’s the part about the guy going down in the basement, being shot, and a few minutes later she decideds to walk down into the basement? Um, sure.
I suspect they will find this guy somehow lured them to his house, or abducted them, then made up the story to try to justify it.
Found this ( source):
A few minutes later, according to the complaint, Kifer came down into the basement and he shot her as well until she fell down the stairs. He said he tried to shoot her again, and when his Mini 14 rifle jammed, she laughed at him. He said this made him upset.Wonder if Smith had the .22 on him, or did he have to leave the room, go back to his gun safe, say, grab the revolver, then return to finish off the girl?If youre trying to shoot somebody and they laugh at you, you go again, he told police. He said he shot her multiple times in the chest with a .22-caliber revolver.
He dragged both of them on tarps into his office workshop, the charges state. Kifer was still breathing so he admitted to shooting her once again under the chin and up into her skull. He told authorities he wanted to end her suffering with a good clean finishing shot.
Look, you were undoubtedly using a different name on FR at the time, but i bet we can find what you had to say ~ probably tried to defend the shooter eh!
We're talkin' Minnesota here. The grass-growing season only lasts ten weeks...
He was ok right up until he fired the finishing shots.
But they would probably have bled to death in short order anyway.
“You should read the story before posting.”
I read the story. I wasn’t commenting on the story. I was commening on the posters post. :-)
Sorry, I thought that you might not have read it, and thought that Castle Doctrine applied.
