Nanny State PING!
I will probably catch a lot of flack for saying this, but the proposed junk food tax is one of several situations where when we don’t control ourselves, our meddling government steps in and does it for us.
The Big Pharma anti smoking front groups spread this lie in order to encourage states to hike cigarette taxes.
The sales pitch was “you will save billions in Medicaid health costs. Crack down and coerce smokers to quit and buy our nicotine gums, lozenges, patches.”
The 2 dirty little secrets were...
1. Smokers on average die earlier and save the STATE money.
2. Gubmint makes more money off cigarettes than Big Tobacco. The MSA made them partners in crime.
I don’t know what Big Phrma has up their sleeve with obesity but I bet you it involves a pill and billions of dollars.
Electronic cigarettes just prove for the 6,596,425,501st time in human history that human engenuity and brilliance beats central planning every time.
