Former Florida governor Jeb Bush met Monday with a group of his former staffers at the J. W. Marriott hotel on Pennsylvania Avenue, just steps from the White House. Bush, a potential 2016 presidential contender, spent an hour in the hotels Cannon room, reminiscing and entertaining questions about his political future.
In an interview with NRO, Bush did not rule out a presidential run. I am here to catch up with folks and promote education reform, he said, smiling.
When asked again whether he will issue a Sherman-type statement about his future, Bush remained coy. We have an alumni group that I like keeping in touch with, he said. Im here to focus on educational reform, and thats what Im going to tell people.
Neil Newhouse, Mitt Romneys campaign pollster, among other GOP operatives, was at the meeting.
On Tuesday, Bush will host a national summit on education reform. Education secretary Arne Duncan, former secretary of state Condoleezza Rice, and Indiana governor Mitch Daniels, among others, will speak at the event.
You just described the Romney campaign .
Aside from Herman Cain , Romney was actually the best candidate to run against Obama, and you see where that got us .
The Bushes have the natural ability to pull Hispanic votes . The big problem is younger single white females who now view government/Obama as Alpha/Beta provider all rolled into one .
The only way the Republicans can win is to harshly and relentlessly define the Dims, and be willing to use dishonesty to do it, if need be . The one who fights dirty at all costs wins .
Romneydid none of what I suggested. His apppeal to the working class was very weak. He ran and behaved not as a populist, but as Thurston Howell III, of Gilligan’s Island fame. And as for Herman Cain being the next best candidate, well, he was a joke to all but his devotees. Why not run Alan Keyes instead. (sarc)
Romney ran on pro-coal, pro-American manufacturing, and clamping down on China , but it didn’t work . Romney was actually the more populist of the two candidates, but the Dims framed the race and argument early ,and ultimately won because of it .
Cain truly posed more of a threat than most realize . He is the only candidate that could have pulled ,at the least, 10 percent of the black vote, which would have won it .
This is evidenced by how vociferously he was attacked .
I could go into the details of this , but if you do not understand what I am saying, it won’t matter anyhow ...
