Black Friday Begins (Early): Walmart Workers Already Striking in at Least Seven States
The Nation ^

Posted on 11/22/2012 11:31:32 PM PST by matt04

It’s on.

A year and a half after retail workers announced the founding of a new Walmart employee group, five months after guest workers struck a Walmart seafood supplier, and seven weeks after the country’s first multi-store Walmart strikes, the Black Friday strike has begun.

...

Expectations are high for a historic strike. Given Walmart’s role as the dominant employer of our era, the current wave of work stoppages is already among the country’s most consequential twenty-first century strikes. But in interviews this month, workers and organizers described today’s actions as a turning point, not a climax, in their struggle against the retail giant. “This is the beginning of something…” said Dan Schlademan, a United Food & Commercial Workers union official who directs the allied group Making Change at Walmart. “This is a new permanent reality for Walmart…2012 is the beginning of the season where retail workers are going to start to stand up.”

“There’s going to be more days that we’re going to strike,” said Rozier, “and it’s not going to stop. I’m not going to stop until they respect us and give us what we want.”

“There’s going to be more days that we’re going to strike,” said Rozier, “and it’s not going to stop. I’m not going to stop until they respect us and give us what we want.”

Lets state the obvious, the ONLY reason the UFCW wants WamlMart to be unionized is to get millions in union dues. WalMart employs approx 1 million people in the US. Multiple that by say 7$/wk per employee. That's approx 364 MILLION in new Union dues the UFCW. That;s 364 MILLION that Walmart Employees won't have to pay for gas, food, heat, etc.

Maybe the strikers should take a quick look how "give us what we want" worked out the Hostess.

I don’t know if I would strike such a large employer during terrible economic times. You can be replaced **snap** like that! There are probably 3 or 400 people wanting your job.

I should add, I posted this when I got back from Black Friday shopping. On more than one occasion the WalMart strike came up wile waiting in lines. No sympathy at all.

You work retail, expect Black Friday, Christmas Eve, day before Thanksgiving (grocery), etc. to be busy and spend time away from home.

They are practically on strike, or at least a slow down, every day. I usually avoid that place because the cashiers at some of them take their sweet time with each customer.

State law and violence might get in the way.

I saw a tweet claiming that WM expects the strike to be .0003 percent of their workforce. I wonder how many “community activists” will show up and be counted as “striking WalMart workers” by the UFCW and MSM.

What state laws? There are no Wal-Mart union shops. Employees can be fired at will. Especially for tardiness or absence.

Look for the union to trot the workers who walked off the job on Black Friday and got fired and claim it was unfair.

They don’t have to take the job if they don’t want it. No one is twisting their arm.

And would someone please explain to me why putting cans on a shelf, clothes on a rack, doors on a car, or twinkies in a truck MEANS that the guy paying you to do that should also pay for your kid to have doctor visits? Why shouldn’t they also have to pay for your car insurance? House insurance?

Why, why, why? Someone tell me why.

From the article:

Retail employees will have back-up from Occupy activists, women’s and consumer groups, and Walmart warehouse workers.

The Nation is to the left of MSNBC. I’ll go out on a limb and say that our local SuperCenter in downstate Illinois will NOT have picketers or walk offs. Jobs are too scarce around here. I’m kind of embarrassed to say that I live in a poor part of the county, so I’m fairly certain that the Wal Mart employees are more concerned with remaining employed than in getting ink from fish wrap like the Nation..

$7???
Try more like $20-30 per week, per employees, or a BILLION DOLLARS more for SEIU-based Democrat political activity.

WHY are you up? It's 3 in the morning?

Don't tell me you were shopping at Wal Mart. :-)

"Why, why, why? Someone tell me why."

Nobody really knows except that it got started due to FDR's wage and price controls in WWII. Employers could do it instead of raising their salaries/wages above the arbitrary controls.

The only POTUS to do it since FDR was RMNixon... A Repellican!!!
