It was a ridiculous, unwatchable game. The announcer said two things early in the game that said this was a farce. First, he essentially stated the game was scheduled for the purpose of setting records. Second, they specifically talked about a planned set of minutes Taylor would get in before being substituted, indicating Taylor would be the guy the coach would use to set a record against a terrible basketball team.
The opponent is not NCAA Div 1, 2, or 3 and not even NAIA. The team is a Div 2 team in some religious based assocation and total enrollment at the school is a little over 300 students. For Faith Baptist, the game was an exhibition game, but for Grinnell, they counted it as a regular season game.
I put this abomination of a game in the same category as when the UConn women’s team arranged for an injured player to be allowed to score the first basket of the game so she could set a school career scoring record. Not something to be celebrated by any stretch.
