I have a preschool son. I am a Christian. My wife is Jewish. I want him to go to Christian school. My wife wants him to go to Jewish school. We had been thinking “well, we’ll just send him to public school and avoid the controversy.”
But reading about all that is going on in public school, I felt I could relate to the two harlots in the decision of Solomon. This week I said “let’s just send him to Jewish school.”
You have yet another option .. send your son to Catholic school! There he will learn about both his Jewish and Christian heritage. Catholic schools hold an excellent tradition of teaching core values, recognized by Jews and christians alike.
“I have a preschool son. I am a Christian. My wife is Jewish. I want him to go to Christian school. My wife wants him to go to Jewish school. We had been thinking well, well just send him to public school and avoid the controversy.”
Your kid will be fine either way. But, in hindsight, maybe split the difference and send him to a Catholic School instead (and save some money).
No matter where you send your child to school you have to keep a close eye on what is going on. Review the curriculum, sit in on the classroom, volunteer in the classroom if possible, go to PTA or other parent group meetings, and so on. Teach your child how to spot propaganda, agendas, sales pitches as it were.
