Florida Rep. Allen West the tea party pugilist and face of the class of House Republicans that stormed to power two years ago conceded Tuesday to 29-year-old construction executive Patrick Murphy in one of the nations highest-profile congressional races.
After two weeks of battle with St. Lucie County elections officials and a recount of early votes that wound up extending Murphys lead West acknowledged that he couldnt surmount his 1,904-vote, or 0.58 percent, deficit. That difference was just outside the 0.5 percent threshold to automatically trigger a recount of all votes.

We are in agreement on this topic.
We can also thank the GOP for once again guaranteeing future vote fraud by not challenging even the most blatant, in your face, vote fraud.
I, too, am done with the GOP. I think they’re all the same, all they want is to get elected and keep their cushy jobs, titles and perks. To he** with the voters seems to be what they are saying. If the dumba** people of his district wanted the drunked Murphy - then let them have him.
I doubt Col. West wants to represent them now anyway. I know I wouldn’t.
He's 51; he could easily run again in the next mid-terms.
The "redistricted" argument along with conspiracy theories were hashed out back in January...
I cant speak to the FL legislatures motives, but it is nearly impossible to craft an R-leaning, non-Cuban district in SE FL under the current laws and comply with the Fair Districts Act. Wests current district runs up and down the Gold Coast, stretching inland in arms to gobble up Republican-leaning areas. Its pretty thorough, and even then it is a swing district. Under Fair Districts, the Republican legislature cant do that anymore. In fact, it is arguably stretching what it can do under the current iteration of Wests district. . .Florida GOP trying to force Allen West out of Congress through redistricting?
I am truly angry. They stole the seat from a great soldier. The Gop caused this to happen. From redistricting to No support for West for a very long time. I hope that are damn well happy now. Excuse my language. They were embarrassed by a black conservative that took no spin from the opposing(hateful) side. They can celebrate along with their liberal pals now. Thank you Allen for your service and loyalty to America. I admire your boldness. God Bless you, sir.
I know how you feel. There is no excuse for America not to see and lift up greatness. It is going to take the tea party to do so and get our guys in places of power as we are able. I think mid terms is a perfect time.

Just shocked that out of a half a million people in a district which runs from Port St. Lucie (the Rio Linda of Florida's Atlantic coast), to Key West, with the Miami suburbs in between, no Dim filed to run for a Dim primary for this seat.
Something smells.
You are right. I bet the Dim party spiked any other candidate applications so they could just pick their puppet.
Yes, this is true. He represented my family. I remember Allen being interviewed on a local radio show. He said while campaigning the first time around; he not only had to defend himself against his opponent but as well as the rino political correct establishment (same ones that went after Palin no doubt) This is why I feel comfortable in making my charge that the GOP caused this to happen long ago. All the negative ads made him to be crazy. Not one word/ad of opposing those extreme attacks that I saw from HG GOP.
He did not have the money to mount the legal battle:
I wish he had the backing from our party to challenge this further. Hopefully, he will not retire completely.
FL is so corrupt, and West knows this. Too bad he decided to move there, when he had many options once he retired from the Army
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: CONGRESSMAN ALLEN WEST STATEMENT ON ELECTION RESULTS
Posted by allenwestrepublic on November 20, 2012
Stuart, FL Today Congressman Allen West released the following statement ending the race for Floridas 18th District:
For two weeks since Election Day, we have been working to ensure every vote is counted accurately and fairly. We have made progress towards that goal, thanks to the dedication of our supporters and their unrelenting efforts to protect the integrity of the democratic process. While many questions remain unanswered, today I am announcing that I will take no further action to contest the outcome of this election.
While there are certainly still inaccuracies in the results, and the actions of the St. Lucie County and Palm Beach County Supervisors of Elections rightly raise questions in my mind and for many voters, after much analysis and this past weekends recount in St. Lucie County, our legal team does not believe there are enough over-counted, undercounted or fraudulent votes to change the outcome of the election.
While a contest of the election results might have changed the vote totals, we do not have evidence that the outcome would change. Given the extremely high evidentiary hurdles involved in a successful challenge, I will not ask my generous supporters to help fund a drawn-out, expensive legal effort with little chance of success. Therefore, we will not contest the certification or challenge the seating of Congressman-elect Murphy.
Serving the people in the House of Representatives has been among the highest honors of my life, but this seat does not belong to me, or for that matter, to any individual. It belongs to the people.
I want to congratulate my opponent, Patrick Murphy, as the new Congressman from the 18th Congressional District. I pray he will serve his constituents with honor and integrity, and put the interests of our nation before his own.
I must thank my wife Angela, and my daughters Aubrey and Austen for their support, patience, understanding and most of all, love. These are three of the toughest women I know. They have sent me off to defend our nation overseas at war, and to Capitol Hill to serve our nation in the House of Representatives. They have all handled the challenges of these last few months, and the last many years, with amazing grace. I know they will be by my side for whatever is our next chapter.
I want to thank my congressional and campaign staff for their service, and most importantly, I want to thank all of our tremendous supporters who provided their time and money to power our campaign. I am humbled by the dedication and perseverance of our supporters, and their commitment to a free and prosperous America. I cannot thank them enough for all they have done for our campaign, but most importantly, what they have done, and will continue to do for our country. None of us should let the outcome discourage us. We should only redouble our resolve.
Above all, I want to thank God for his blessings, and for blessing me with the opportunity to serve.
Only God knows what is in store for each of us. I have dedicated my life to serving this nation, and the results of this election will not change my purpose. Just as I did in the deserts of Iraq and Afghanistan, just as I did on Capitol Hill, I will continue to fight for our Republic.
Our nation will not overcome our challenges overnight, and the road ahead for each one of us will not be easy. But this nation would never have become that shining beacon of light if our founders had chosen the easy path 236 years ago. We all must proudly continue their legacy.
For the protection and preservation of our life, liberty and pursuit of happiness, I shall remain steadfast and loyal. God bless you and God bless these United States of America.
Come on, a guy can dream can't he?
Every comment following the article was against West. Shows who reads Politico.
I really need to find a new country if there isn’t going to be any secession.
What a bunch of racists!! If he was a Demoncrat - then the entire country would be in an uproar over this. I feel sick at heart over this. We’ve lost a great Congressman. The GOP offered him a run in some districts in GA, and he said his wife wanted to live in FL, so that’s where they settled. Maybe he’ll change his mind.
We must keep him in prayer that God will guide and keep this wonderful servant of his.
I wonder which candidate these stupid voters would rather have on their side in a fight? A man who would go through hell with a gas can, or a drunken 29 year old nothing?
They all are in gaga land with Obama getting back in. Free gifts, you know. Nasty doesn't even describe the democrats comments any longer. They are truly twisted with no conscience.
My brother was in the army and fought in the VietNam and first gulf wars. He said he feels betrayed by his country to see them vote for Obama. I told some liberals what he said. They asked me is he mad because we now allow gay marriage and have pot legalized? I told them no. He fought against America’s enemies and put his life on the line for this country and he never thought they would vote in someone who would undermine all our military has done just so they could get free stuff but they have. The liberals said I am afraid of some imagined boogey man out there. The educational system and media have brought us to this point in time.
A drunken 29-year-old who will give them free stuff and whose miserable career will be covered up by a syncophantic press.
The comments on Politico are vicious. that’s who we’re up against. Haters, pure and simple.
I had 2 older brothers right above me in age who served in VietNam as well. They both are no longer here. We lost them at a very young age. They loved their country and enlisted. I just don't like to talk it about. I was very close to both. It still hurts. I agree with everything your brother told you. God Bless you and your dear brother.
Florida dumps West and brings back psycho Alan Grayson. It truly is Bizarro World.
