No good deed goes unpunished. In her cynical front-page story Saturday, New York Times reporter Sarah Maslin Nir wrote on what she called on her Twitter feed "race, class, and the hurricane," fishing for criticism of the wealthy whites who donated time and money and effort to help the victims of Hurricane Sandy, and providing some on her own. Yet it's the alleged victims of all that generosity that look thin-skinned and insensitive, in "Helping Hands Also Expose a New York Divide."
After more than a week of self-sufficiency, George Ossy, an immigrant from Africa living amid the chaos of the Rockaways, with his 10-year-old daughter in tow, walked into the relief center down the street, one of several set up by the volunteers who had descended on the storm-battered peninsula in Queens.
Moments later, a white woman leaned down to address his daughter. Have you eaten in two days? she asked.
Mr. Ossy surged with outrage. Power was out, yes, and nights were cold for sure, but Mr. Ossy, a taxi driver proud of the long days he works to earn money for his family, was insulted by the suggestion that his daughter was not well cared for.
I said: What do you think? You think we live in the bush? He felt condescended to by the volunteers -- many of whom hail from upscale neighborhoods in Manhattan and Brooklyn. He turned and left.
Nir, a former nightlife reporter for the paper, found "dividing lines in a city long fractured by class, race, ethnicity, geography and culture" and managed to chide "white gentrifiers" for only caring about the poor when tragedy strikes (should they have stayed home and not bothered?)
My message to George Ossy....
Get over yourself, asshole. Learn a little gratitude and get over your f***ing color.
I’m so sick of this crap.
Was there any other private ethnic group doing anything for him?
“a city long fractured by class, race, ethnicity, geography and culture”
Progressive nirvana. And they spit in the face of whitey trying to help, and when they’re done spitting, demand more.
The thing is,
the woman was probably a Liberal who really thinks that blacks can’t take care of themselves.
Sarah Maslin Nir. a two-name person. Ignore.
I've noticed, however, that some of the Red Cross workers who are interviewed seem to be snooty liberal elitist types. The story about Red Cross people staying in luxury hotel suites didn't help dispel that impression either.
Notice how few of these people, including the MSM, belong to the minority group known as “Americans”....a group that I belong to proudly!
Maybe the “white” woman said “Have you eaten today?” but the African immigrant doesn’t understand English very well.
Given that he’s an African immigrant he probably believes these people were sent there by the government ~ and had no idea they were simply doing charity!
Why is the racist foreigner from Africa (probably Muslim) at a relief center if he’s driving a cab overtime and can supply food for his daughter? Or is he not providing for her and making her starve because he’s too racist to put up with whitey running the relief center?
This is a dang strange article. The left’s diversity mob has a serious case of race hate and jealousy on. Hope they are not racially attacking those kind souls who are going in to help. Creepy NYC culture.
"Lord loves a working man."
"Don't trust Whitey."
"See a doctor and get rid of it."
The progressives want whites dead.
See also Benghazi
If we want something from you, we'll have the government take it by force!
“Moments later, a white woman leaned down to address his daughter.
Have you eaten in two days? she asked.”
WTF? That question wouldn’t even make sense.
In reality, she asked “Have you eaten TODAY”.
Not “in two days”.
They are REQUIRED to ask people if they have eaten when they come in!
Of course, the Times knows that, but it doesn’t fit their racist hate propaganda agenda, the whole point of printing this lying crap in the first place.
Give the guy a break. Prolly got hit in the head by a coke bottle.
Excerpted from the article:
Al Pagan, 46, who lives in the Red Hook Houses, said as he watched the volunteers help his neighbors.
Theyre starting to realize white people are human beings just like us.
I’m speechless...
