In the latest round of union aggressiveness that has marked the short post-Obama re-election era, officials at the Port of Portland are prepping for a strike by the International Longshore and Warehouse Union beginning November 25. Thanks to the strike, shippers will begin bypassing Portland altogether.
Meanwhile, unions are also threatening to strike at grain terminals in Portland, Vancouver, and Puget Sound, driving up the price of grain across the country. As The Oregonian

Drive grain prices higher so obozo can get more people dependent on the gov’t?
preppers ping?
Just fire them all.
>> driving up the price of grain across the country
I don’t get that; I thought grain was an *export*. Seems like the inability to ship it away would drive the price *down*.
Have I mentioned lately how much I despise unions and the thugs who run them?
I realize unions may FEEL emboldened by Obama's win, but they are actually screwing over the little guy in more ways than one.
An unemployed union member is in no better shape than an unemployed non-union member.
And that hurts EVERYONE.
Dick Trumpka has to realze that his 600K/yr salary depends on union dues flowing freely.
No union dues paying members, the less gravy for him.
"Now the whole world stands on the brink, staring down into bloody hell, all those liberals and intellectuals and smooth-talkers and all of a sudden, nobody can think of anything to say.
Rorschach from The Watchmen movie
Unions are nothing more than anachronistic, uber-selfish, thuggish, Socialist assholes who wave the American flag in front of their fat faces to hide the smirks.
F*** ‘em all.
Whatever Obama’s peeps had in mind to rescue Hostess just went out the window. They cannot deal with an increase in the price of grain!
Grain has a “world price” so if we quit exporting it the world price climbs ~ and so does our domestic price.
Coming soon to a neighborhood near you.
Trumka has a glorious future in mind for us:
“Syndicalism is a type of economic system proposed as a replacement for capitalism and an alternative to state socialism, which uses Confederations of collectivised trade unions or industrial unions. It is a form of socialist economic corporatism that advocates interest aggregation of multiple non-competitive categorised units to negotiate and manage an economy.”
Probably would be due to shipping costs. Cheapest way to ship grain from the Columbia basin is to barge it down the river to Portland then put it on ship to final processing. The alternative is haul by truck or train to either another port like Vancouver BC, or sit on it until time to make room for the next crop. I would expect that grain and flour prices in Portland and surrounding cities would actually go down while the strike is on, but up for every one else.
Do it front-to-back. Start with SEIU, then go to AFSCME, then progress to the grandaddy, which appears to be AFL/CIO, and everything in between.
These organizations serve no good or even reasonable purpose.
>> “The blight of these labor unions has to be permanently exterminated.” <<
I agree, but that is not likely to happen when Super-Blight occupies the White House, and the Governor’s mansion.
This past year I was on the jury duty at the trial of the Vancouver ULWU President. He was charged wutg the criminal interference of a train into the Port of Longview terminal. And yes, it was a grain carrying train.
The entire echelon of ILWU’s west coast leaders turned up at this trial, and they brought their banners with Soviet-era communist screeds prominently displayed. This union is extremely radical and is bullying it’s way towards being the sole union serving in west coast ports.
This ought to scare the Hell out of everyone!
These people are communists, cooperating with the international labor unions controlled by communists like Leo Gerard. He is a top adviser to BHO2, and a frequent visitor to the White House.
Unfortunately, he guy on trial wasn’t convicted but he wasn’t aquitted, either. I refused to withdraw my quilty vote. So there was a mistrial. Interestingly, the prosecuting attorney for the State of Washington was from southeast Asia or his family came from that region. I’m certain he recognized EXACTLY who and what these unionists represented.
The following are some articles about the ILWU on the west coast - they want to be the ONLY union at those ports, so thay can control the region economically.
I frequent the Labor Union Report.com site. It has some very interesting articles that combined with what The Ulsterman Report has revealed about international labor unions, would cause anyone great concern.

Yes your insights are correct.
If we stop exporting grain from the West Coast and do not export it elsewhere, there is more grain in the US. So grain prices in the US will fall.
There is a world grain price to be sure but don’t forget to include transportation costs.
They all want the same deal UAW got.
Actually, I suspect the purpose is to drive farmers out of business, a adjunct to collapsing the economy.
