"It's nuts," Gingrich told guest host Martha Raddatz on ABC's "This Week" on Sunday. "First of all, it's insulting. This would be like Wal-Mart having a bad week and going, 'The customers have really been unruly.' I mean, the job of a political leader in part is to understand the people. If we can't offer a better future that is believable to more people, we're not going to win."

The concept of raising the underclass is great. Its just not going to happen as long as we’re making it easy to be poor. In fact, instead of raising them up, we’re bringing a lot of other people down. I have personally had a number of people in the 35-55 age range tell me how tired they were of busting hump and just wanted to get enough $$ to live without having to work. And they were being totally serious. For whatever reason, they have given up on life and just want to subsist in front of the TV.
Hate to remind you that Rick Perry killed his own inertia with awful debate performances. Santorum could have stopped Romney and Newt could have stopped Santorum. Problem Newt has was Newt and his BS he was piping over the last years. Another thing is his womanizing problems.
Nobody forgot about that, apparently.
Someone upthread just put out a reminder that it was Newt who called Obama the Foodstamp President. This is true and that is why Newt is not trusted. He said it himself, so where does he get off flaming anyone else?
In truth, I agree with Romney and Newt in his original statement that Obama is the foodstamp prezzy. So now Newt is trying to morph again. I ain’t buying it.
Romney is right about that.
“If we can’t offer a better future that is believable to more people, we’re not going to win”.
How about just telling the People the truth?
Gingrich is right on the money.
He is saying that Romney did not provide a better vision for the future.
As a matter of fact, he’s right. Romney spent from the first debate ‘til the end of the campaign unwilling to discuss Benghazi, the budget, unemployment, and vision.
He did say (over and over and over and over) “I will create 12 million jobs. I know how to create jobs.”
That is an opening sentence. Those that follow should build on that until we see Reagan’s shining city on a hill.
..my friend :) Newt is not saying what some of you are posting. Newt wants to build people up in poverty...you called him a traitor//very extreme and also when Ricky tried to take out the Speaker. a back stabber in my book. You think I would trust a person like that. I am going to make dinner. Have a nice evening/day where you are. We can agree to disagree. Hopefully we can all unite to get a great candidate in 2016, if we are still here.
So your recommended solution is perpetual class warfare — just choose up sides and have at it?
Newt's ideas are just more complex than yours -- not a high bar apparently! ;-)
Romney, McCain, Bushes and their GOP-e "band of losers" are the "gifts that keep on giving" long after they lost elections.
What Newt says is that Romney (just like McCain and Bushes before him) is making excuses for his lack of ability to explain/educate/sell the benefits ("gifts") of economic/fiscal conservatism and the advantages of limited-power government and the value and benefits of self-reliance (which may include both individualism and the "community" in the normal, not the union/government "organizer" sense) because neither one of them knows what "conservatism" is and that they themselves are quite used to buying votes with political or monetary "gifts" when they are in the office. It's tough to honestly articulate the concept they are little familiar with.
Majority in the House of Representatives, 30 Republican governors and three quarters of state legislatures show quite easily that conservatism is not a problem, just the weak "pretend-conservatives" GOP presidential candidates are.
If you can't win an election where the economy (when not teetering on recession) is running at less than half the pace of normal post-WW2 recoveries despite $Trillions in massive spending and deficits; where the "official" U3 unemployment rate is near 8% and the "unofficial" U6 un-/underemployment rate is north of 14%; where the work force participation rate is lowest in more than 3 decades, and the total size of the labor force is still smaller four years after the start of the recession; where the poverty rates are over 15% overall and much higher in states and cities and "communities" run by Democratic governments and affects the ethnicities which reliably vote for Democrats; where "generic" Republican presidential candidate kept a polling lead over Obama of at least 3% while Romney struggled to come close to even (which may not even have been true, considering bad internal polling by Romney team and Rasmussen and Gallup); where the foreign policy of Obama administration was a disaster (whether he personally mentioned "terrorism" after Benghazi or not) in Middle East, Africa, Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran etc. etc. - then something was terribly, horribly wrong with you and your candidacy, not the fact that all campaigns are emphasizing the "gifts" they would bring to the constituency they target (apparently the "magic" 53%?).
Blaming, accusing and saying "mean things" about people who didn't vote for you, for wanting something better than they are getting now from the government, doesn't make Mitt Romney a "conservative" and isn't going to endear GOP to them. Explaining and educating how much better they can have it by embracing true conservatism and conservative solutions (like $2.00-$2.50 gas and "energy independence," for example) the way Reagan and Gingrich did, led to massive gains in acceptance of conservatism and "the liberal" has become a dirty word that Democrats couldn't shed fast enough.
They can impugn Newt and his message, and ignore (once again, as they have done ever since he led the House Republicans) what Gingrich is trying to explain to them (the real reasons for the loss and what to do about it, and different ways of bringing the conservatism back to the GOP) and instead keep making the same excuses election in and election out, but that will only keep the GOP fractured, demoralized and defeated.
Yup, except a portion of the GOP is selling America out.
That is the problem.
The GOP needs to be for America. American jobs, American innovation and American industry.
STOP SELLING OUT AMERICA.
Yeah, and all the primary voters agrred with me instead of you. High bar? nope.
You, betcha. My chosen side is....my side. :^)
Raise the Underclass my foot. What makes you think they want to be raised. What more could they want? They get free rent, food, medical care, education, color t=v, preference on jobs, what else could they want???
Everybody’s a loser, except those chosen for us by other people, and sometimes even by me, right?! Those who get their rocks off calling Gingrich a “loser” would have worshipped and his boots had he somehow won. Follow the crowd.
It is just talk. Lots of talk. Anyway, it doesn’t matter, Newt is done. He is old and white. Means it is over in this America.
People are going to have to see the crash and the end of the massive bennies. Until then, they will vote for whoever hands out the most of what other people work for.
Newt is right.
If the GOP can’t offer a better vision, then the competition will continue to successfully scam the electorate with welfare bennies.
Until there’s a real leader that can articulate conservative principles with realistic applications in mind, the GOP will lose. It’s that simple.
I can’t wait to NEVER hear the words Mitt Romney ever again in our lives. He was a loser as I predicted. That is what happens when you pick a flip-flop liberal for nomination. Nobody should be sticking up for him. The days of slobbering over Romney are over...Please stop it. It was disgusting during the election and now it is just repulsive.
bump
Not sure why you pinged me to post #25.
I consider Romney's comments on par with him equating his wealth accumulation the same as Obama bailing out the auto industry. It ticked me off, but I still voted for him. So it does not surprise me that Romney would view the people who he needed to vote for him, that did not, as children voting for Santa.
I do not think Romney has a clue who voted for him or maybe better said who voted against Obama. A number of those voting for Romney, have lost jobs then homes due the government orchestrated economy.
Romney ignores there is on any given day 33% of Americans are leftist who have jobs, are upper middle class and including the majority of 'rich' Hollywood celebrities. The media daily is the leftist cheerleader and the majority of those 33% have always needed since their childhood to be in what is perceived as the 'popular' crowd.
I know more people who are professionals, upper income, and 'church going' who voted for Obama than I know in this 'group' that voted for Romney. The people I know that voted for Romney tended to be the 'TeaParty' mindset. Government taxation/mandating without representation is against the Constitution. Not all these people are regular church goers, but believe in God.
I firmly believe that GOP open primaries gave us Romney. AND Romney with the aid of the GOP-e convinced themselves Romney could win without putting together a cogent voter registration drive in those 'swing' states. In the past four years millions of Americans became eligible to vote and Romney and the GOP-e had no clue how to convince this segment of our society to get involved.
Liberals have been given control over our education system run by unions. Union leadership by it very make up is Communism in reality. Teachers, SEIU, and government workers all union organizations got the vote out for Obama.
In the days after this election I have read thread after thread that Romney did not receive as many votes as lord McCain did in 2008. It is not true, Romney did in fact receive more votes than lord McCain. In reality this election was far closer than the overwhelming majority recognize. Obama's campaign knew exactly down to the individual polling place where they needed the votes to 'swing' the election. Romney's GOP-e did not do their homework, and did not bother to even 'fight' for the votes they received.
Romney and the GOP-e are lazy and act just as entitled as any common welfare recipient they are itching about post election. The Romney that crushed Newt in Florida never showed up in the general election, and he lost.
